#Hallelujah Day 8 Easter Advent Kit for Holy Week

Day 8 Green Hill Far Away-01Day 8 ThornNailVinegarSideBlurry-01Day 8 Thorns-01Today is Good Friday. It’s the day we commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary.  In the devotional from the kit, it is suggested that your family put all of the electronics and cell phones in a basket for the evening and go by candlelight to represent the 3 hours of darkness experienced in the Old World and 3 days of darkness int he New World.  With all the distractions of our day, I think this exercise is so appropriate for the Season.  A time to ponder with less going on around us.

Hugs,

Preparation: Easter Advent for Holy Week #HALLELUJAH

Day 1 MantleR

If you are following along with me this week with the Easter Advent for Holy Week kit , let’s get the artwork printed and get ready to go!  You won’t actually start the advent with your family until this Friday (that is 10 days before Easter) if you are going to do the whole 10 days of devotionals.  You can print the kit out on a home color printer, or you can choose to go to a commercial color printer such as a Fed Ex Kinkos or The UPS Store, just make sure you either email it to them in advance or download it onto a flash drive before heading to the printers.

There are ten palm leaf branches you need to print from the kit, it only has one showing in the file, so you will need to print 9 more of the one page, and hand cut them out.  If your family helps in your effort, it might take only 30 minutes, depending on how many hands you have.  It took me about 10 minutes per leaf for the 12X18″ size, (This larger size is not included in the kit, only the 8X10 size is included in the kit, but you can purchase a separate file HERE  if you want it bigger.  My mantel is fairly large, so I wanted larger leaves).   It would probably take half that time to cut out the 8X10 size in the kit.  I didn’t cut exactly on the lines.  There was plenty of white border around the leaf on mine, and I still loved it.  Then cut out each individual letter from the watercolored letters that spell H-A-L-L-E-L-U-J-A-H.  I did not cut too carefully on these lines either, I just cut around the black outline leaving a border of white once again.  Glue these cut out letters to the palm leaves.  I used a 1-1/2″ wide satin ribbon in a mint green to clip the palm branches on to. Then, use small clothespins or binder clips to attach them on the ribbon, spaced evenly.  Hang across a window, drape on the mantle, or hang on a soffit or wall in your home.  See photo above.

In addition to the palm leaves and letters,  print off everything else included in the kit.  I went to a second hand store and found most of the sizes of frames I needed for each print listed below for less than a couple of dollars each.  I strongly suggest using a nice color digital print cardstock like a Hammermill 80 lb or 100 lb, it makes a difference in the color quality of your prints.

10 PAGES of LESSON PLANS – Read over lesson plans and gather items you may need for the enrichment activities listed in the “DO” tab at the end of each lesson.  They are optional, so decide now which ones you want your family to do.

In honor of the Easter season and the #Hallelujah campaign that is going on here at Sugardoodle, we joyfully introduce our Easter Advent for Holy Week with you. The thought process behind this project was to create an advent much like what SugarDoodle created for the  #ASaviorIsBorn campaign this past Christmas.  In this kit, there are 10 mini devotionals that are completely do-able for families to share in a 15 minute family study.   I include additional enrichment activities and crafts that may be added to your devotionals and require just a little more effort to plan and schedule, but not necessary to the meaning in the lesson.  Anyone can do this, we’ve made it so easy!  Start off by downloading and printing all the pieces at once on your home printer or on a digital color commercial printer like at a Fed Ex Kinkos branch.  Some assembly is required with the Palm Leaf garland.

The artwork is an incredible value.  Each page was hand-painted and hand-lettered by me to create the kit.  There are 20 original art prints that would retail at an average price of $3 each in the SugarDoodle store, but we included all 20 of them at a sale price of $9.95!  Note: In addition to this main kit, we are offering larger size downloads with a few of the prints included in this kit for $3.50 each if you want a variety of sizes for your gallery wall.

Follow the SugarDoodle blog throughout the upcoming week, starting this Monday, and I will guide you through each day of this Easter Advent for Holy Week.  I’ll be sharing lots of images with several possibilities.  Won’t you join us here?  Find the kit available HERE.

Thank You’s and Photo Credits:

I want to briefly share the experience I had in meeting with Janet Hales, author of a beautiful book entitled , A Christ Centered Easter:  Day by Day Activites to Celebrate Easter Week:  Salt Lake City:  Deseret Book, 2002.   (A resource I recommend getting your hands on if you don’t already have that little gem in your library.)  Have you ever met someone and felt like you’ve known them for a long time?  Yes, that describes my first greeting with Janet:  Warm, calm, gentile, brilliant and very articulate.  She has a very strong relationship the Savior and wants nothing more than for her family to have that same depth and adoration for Him.  I owe so much of what I included in these devotionals to her recommendations about celebrating the life, crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Christ.  She bore such a powerful testimony to me of the importance of the Easter season being centered on our Savior.  I couldn’t help but catch the vision, and had images immediately come to my mind when considering where to start.

Thank you to my dear friend and personal family photographer, Amy Little. Yeah, she’s pretty much my bestie when it comes to capturing my life’s most important occasions and people.  But don’t steal her.  Or rather, don’t steal her when I need her.  She’s incredible, and I couldn’t have captured the visuals for this project without her.  I mean, just look at her point and shoot.  She made melted butter and marshmallows look amazing

My other big thank you goes to my go-to technology expert and another contributor to this Sugardoodle blog (and her own blog, MeckMom).  She’s a computer whiz and did all the layouts for this project.  When I grow up, I want to be as technologically nerdy and beautiful as her.  Thank you Maria, for keeping your eye rolls to yourself when I asked dumb questions and for filming Adobe Illustrator tutorials just for me.  I admit, I’m incredibly technology challenged, and she helped hide all of that from you, until now.
