BIRTHDAY IDEAS:
As our children prepare for baptism and graduation they have expressed hesitation with their individual meeting with the bishop, so we are trying to help them get to know the bishop. For their birthday, they get a coupon for a treat from the bishop. They take this coupon to the bishop. When they give him the coupon, he takes them into his office and chats for a moment. Then, in his bottom drawer is each child and teacher's birthday gift. Their gift is a picture of their favorite temple with a picture of their family below it. At the top is printed "My Eternal Family". This has a magnet attached as well as the ability to hang it in their room on the wall if they like. We came up with this idea with the bishop. We wanted to give them a picture to hang up to remind them of what is most important. The coupon I found on your site, thank you so much! Also, in 2008 we decided to go away from treats as birthday gifts and to stick with LDS gifts, so this past year we gave them a bag with a pencil, bookmark, and silicone bracelet with the theme on. For 2009 birthdays, we are going to make black decorative blocks and modge podge a black and white picture of our local temple to the front. We are going to Photoshop the words "For Eternity" in the sky above the temple. We're hoping this is something that the children will keep for a long time. (Idea by Kristen Brown / ga12152008)
For Primary birthdays this next year, we are making each child a magnet board and magnets. We are making magnets with simple words, "family", "forever", "love" and maybe one with the picture of the temple and then one with the child's name. We are making them with the clear, flat marble stones found in craft stores. We will attach a note that says, "To a MAG-nificant child, Happy Birthday!" (Idea by Megan / ga11242008)

We have a larger primary and so we struggled with a cheap but meaningful gift. We came up with this. We got a punch packet that would make punch. We put on it the We Are Pleased As Punch It Is Your Birthday. Then we attached a copy of The Family: A Proclamation To The World and a Home Evening on the family. We attached it all together with a paper clip and made a cute bow for it. (Taken from Nicole Richins / ga01042009)

CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEA:
Dede writes, "Last year I wanted to give the children in Primary something special for Christmas. So, I gathered their families and took a picture of the whole family. Then I printed the photos directly onto copies of the Proclamation (ordered for free from the Distribution Center.) It is amazing to see your family while reading those inspired words. The children and families really liked them. Something to remember, anything dark will print over the words making them impossible to read. (Like Dad's black slacks if you take the photos on Sunday,) so I posed the families with their faces really close together and took the pictures as close up as I could get them! OPENING EXERCISES:
More information is forth coming from Tara on this idea. However, she writes, "For the 2009 theme "My Eternal Family" we will be building a temple on the back wall of our Primary. (During 2008 we used the Armor of God to dress up our 'poster children'.) Around the temple will be pictures of each family in our ward. The birthday present for each child will be a poster (or picture) of their favorite temple. Hopefully I will have the black and white drawing ready early enough for others to use in January. I'll send a PDF of the temple (we will be using the Timpanogos Temple) so that other Primary leaders can blow it up at the copy center. I know there are line drawings of many temples on the internet that other wards can use. I'll also send the outline that will have each monthly theme matched up with a piece of the temple. I just wanted to give you a heads up on what we are planning for 2009." (Idea by Tara from Highland, Utah / ga11072008)
My Family Can Be Forever - You could adapt this idea and enlarge this clipart to use throughout the year. Just change the monthly themes to match 2009 and by the end of the year, your house will be built.

PRIMARY PROGRAM HELPS:
Our idea for the 2009 Primary Program is to get the families involved. We thought to have each of the families of the primary take one month (theme and song) and present it as a F.H.E. lesson. You would obviously leave out all the prayers that are in a real F.H.E. I felt strongly that the theme is on families then we need to include the families. Some families you could pair up depending on the size of the ward. (by Emily Hadler / ga11022008)
