ARTICLES FROM CHURCH MAGAZINES:

Out of Darkness into His Marvelous Light by Robert D. Hales
The Lighthouse of the Lord by Thomas S. Monson
There is a great little article in the Friend magazine on how lighthouses worked decades ago. The article is called "Exploring: Keepers of the Light" (Friend, February 1991, p. 48, by Tryn Paxton). I used parts of this article along with Boyd K. Packer's "The Edge of the Light" story to teach about the importance of examples / lights.  (Idea by Laurette Woodward / ga02212009)

CLIPART:

CRAFT IDEAS:

 Like a Lighthouse

DECORATION IDEAS:

Let your light shine from Creative Ladies Ministry

FOOD/REFRESHMENT IDEAS:

Edible Lighthouse Centerpiece by Shauna H. Hostetler
Food that could go along with this theme: clam chowder, clam dip with crackers, crab cakes, shrimp platter, potato soup with goldfish crackers, mahi mahi or any kind of fish.  For dessert, you could do parfaits, they are tall like a lighthouse.

HANDOUT IDEAS:

Attach the following saying to a glow stick - "If you want to share the light with others, then you have to GLOW yourself." (President Monson)

LESSON HELPS:

The Lighthouse of the Lord
Originally a Camp Idea but could be adapted for a lesson

Child of Light, June 1979, New Era
If your eye be single, August 1984, New Era
Just One Little Light, January 1988, New Era
Light of the World
Like a Lighthouse
Walk in the Light, March 1996, New Era

NEW ERA POSTERS:

Look to the Light
When the Son is your light, you make the world a brighter place.

OBJECT LESSONS:

I'm in an FHE group and someone else did an object lesson where you hold a candle up high in a dark place (my family used a small bathroom) and then hold the candle down low. It's amazing how much more illumination there is when you hold the candle lower. (Idea by Rebekah Bremner)
Share your light

POEMS:

Beacons from the lighthouse
My lighthouse
The light of Christ
The lighthouse keeper

In the darkest cavern
Where you cannot see the light,
When the stars of Heaven hid
Their faces in the night,
Mighty arms are holding you
Safely as his own,
Making sure you never face
The darkness all alone
-by Rebecca Barlow Jordan
