Last spring we had a Ward Swap and Chili cook off. We advertised it for about 6 weeks ahead of time to give everyone time to do their spring cleaning. We had everyone bring their items that they would have regularly been donated to DI and we set them up like a store in the Relief Society Room. We had so many items that we ended up setting things up in the hall and in the foyer. After dinner people were allowed to wonder through and take anything that they wanted or might need. We did end up with a lot of stuff left over and we loaded it onto a trailer and took it to the DI the following day. Everyone loved it. We had a lot of books, movies, kids clothes and even quite a bit of furniture. The only thing I would have done different was to have arranged to have a DI trailer there to load up with the left over items. It would have saved us a lot of work. People loved the idea of sharing our gently used stuff with other families in the ward who would use it and might need it.| < Prev | Next > |
