I made a little lunch of a sandwich, apple and a granola bar and put it in a lunch sack. I pulled out each item and showed them plus a note. I asked them if they ever had a love note from their mom in their lunch that said, "I love you very much. Please don't forget to (whatever she doesn't want you to forget), Love, Mom." Then I said there was a Primary song that had a love note from President Hinckley with a reminder in it because he loves us so much that he never wants us to forget to do this. Then I read the note supposedly from President Hinckley that said, "Dear Children from the ___________ Stake (or the name of your ward), I love you very much. Don't ever forget to kneel down every night and morning to say your prayers." Did President Hinckley really write this note? No, but he wrote the words to this song. I will sing it to you, and I want you to count how many times he says not to forget to pray (which is five). Raise your hands to tell me how many times. Now I will sing it to you again, and I want you to tell me when he wants you to say your prayers. Raise you hands to tell me when (every night and morning). Listen again to tell me what position are you supposed to be in when you say your prayers? (Kneeling) Now lets sing the song together to see if you can remember the words and the tune from listening to me.  By the time you have sung it to them two or three times, they almost have it. Then you can have them sing it with you two or three more times, and they most certainly will have it by then. (Idea by Chris Mills)

 (Idea by Melanie Edwards)  I first told the story of how it was written. That this song was a special message from their prophet to them personally. It was their own very special song.  I had for visuals a clipart of a finger with string tied around it (I made 5 of these), a sun, a moon and stars.

We also did actions to the song:

Don't ever forget: move pointer finger back & forth and shake head
Pray: hands palms together, praying fashion
Kneel down every night. Left arm across waist. Right arm perpendicular to left arm lowering arm so that it lays on top of left arm. Depicting sun setting
And morning: right arm raises back up. Depicting sun rising.

Then I gave all the children a little piece of yarn to tie around their finger so that they would never forget to pray.

Don't ever forget - (use pointer finger on right hand and move right arm in front of you from left side to right side - back and forth)

to pray - (cross arms in front of you as if preparing to pray)

*Repeat actions for next line which is the same as the first*

Kneel down - (take 1st 2 fingers on right hand and bend them and have hand pointing downward - looks like knees kneeling)

every night - (take right arm and move it in a sweeping motion from bottom to top - start with arm in front of stomach and sweep arm upwards)

and morning - (now take left hand and do the same - start with arm in front of stomach and make sweeping motion to the left)

*The last section of the song repeats actions from the first line.*

This song is so simplistic and so are these actions (even though they're sometimes hard to describe). They worked like a charm and my primary learned this song in no time flat!
