Fall Service Project

For those participating in our Fall Service Project, here are the number of cards and blankets that have been donated so far:

Cards - 4296

Blankets - 284

Thank you for your support!

I learned something new and wanted to share it with everyone (as I was not aware of this previously).  Family Search gathers genealogical and historical records from around the world.  They need volunteers to extract family history information from digital images of historical documents to create searchable indexes that assist everyone in finding their ancestors.  So, how do you get started?  I knew you'd ask!

First, you go to this website -----> Family Search Indexing and download and install the necessary software on your computer.  Next you click on the button in the bottom right hand corner that says, "Volunteer".  It looks like this....

Once you are registered, you request a batch of files.  You transcribe the highlighted information.  A batch normally takes 30 minutes to complete and you have one week to finish each batch.  If you can't complete it in a week it is then turned over to someone else and you sign up for a new batch when you are able.  You can work on this for five or ten minutes at a time until it is done or finish it all at once, making it easy to do at your own pace.

This is a wonderful service project for your family, teenagers, youth groups, etc.  Plus it is done in your home, at your convenience and you decide which types of records (census, church, vital records, etc.) you'll work on and in what language.  Please check it out....it's a wonderful service opportunity!!

It is such a privledge to get to know so many of you.  Thank you for your kindness and support and helping me keep this site going.  You are all fabulous!!!  THANK YOU!!!
