Jen Clingo shares how they plan to sing "Called To Served": Our Primary has been successful so far in learning the chorus in other languages. I am going to have a soloist sing the chorus first in German. Then the primary will sing vs. 1 in English and the sr. primary will sing the chorus in Russian which I got from someone in the Russian dept. at the MTC. I had a friend translate it for me so I could write it phonetically. The second vs. will also be in English but then the whole primary will sing the chorus in Spanish which I got from the church website. The children love singing the different languages and the feeling they get, like being in other countries with the missionaries. NEW! 7-19-2008

Outgoing Primary Presidency Gift Idea by Korinne Cowley - We gave the outgoing presidency a little bit different kind of gift. I had someone who does vinyl letter print off the actual primary theme ("All thy children shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of thy children" 3 Nephi 22:13) in a nice way, and then placed that scripture onto a 12x12 inch tile for display in their home. It reminded them of what they had done during the years they spent in primary and the peace and love the children felt from them. NEW! 7-12-2008

Wendi Baggaley shares an idea on how to teach, "Called To Serve" - To introduce the song "Called to Serve", I showed a 2 minute video clip from the church-produced video "Called to Serve". In this video, missionaries at the MTC sing phrases in English, German, French, Japanese, and then the second verse and chorus in English. The children really enjoyed seeing real missionaries singing this song. Afterwards, I asked the children to describe how they felt, then shared my testimony about how it felt to be in the MTC singing this song, surrounded by other missionaries, all united with the same purpose. I may also show this on the 4th week and have the children stand and sing with the missionaries on the 2nd verse or chorus. (Note: The song is several minutes into the video, so it helps to have it cued ahead of time. Look for where an MTC teacher is helping missionaries learn a foreign language phrase and a voice-over says "I caught on fire, I just caught on fire.") NEW! 7-12-2008

Tracy Young shares an idea for an outgoing Primary Presidency gift. She writes, "For our outgoing presidency, we wrote "Thank you for touching our lives" on canvas bags we got in a 3-pack at Michaels. Then we had each child put a fingerprint on each bag. We used primary colors for the fingerprints. It was easy to do and since we did fingerprints, it was easy to clean the paint off their finger quickly with a wet wipe." Elaine Mills writes, "I read 'Tracking your food storage' in the Ensign when it was first printed and loved it, but had to revamp my storage system when we moved to NYC where there is little space to hang up things so large. So I adapted the system for more compact storage of the chart. I use the color coding, but instead of having a huge poster, or felt chart, I use a three ring binder with Trading Card Pages. (I bought them at Wal-Mart in the aisle where you get photo protectors to add to a three ring photo album.) This way I can flip through the binder quickly to pull the card I need and then store the binder on a convenient shelf either with the food storage, or in my kitchen." NEW! 7-11-2008

We had our Primary activity day. I used The Journey of 1000 miles by Mary Lou Anderson, as an idea for our activity. I made cutouts from construction paper and poster board to make rivers, forts, Winter Quarters, the Great Salt Lake, Devil's Tower. We divided into several groups with the Young Men and Young Women being the "Captains." We then traveled from Nauvoo to Salt Lake using the toothpicks from her idea. The children loved it, and had a great lesson too. We served chili, corn bread, homemade bread and jam, and chicken nuggets, (sage hen) for lunch. We are a small branch and always have visitors come to our activities, so they had a lesson on our pioneers. (Shared by Becky Humbert) NEW! 7-09-2008

LeAnna Nicholson shares an idea for an outgoing Primary Presidency gift. She writes, "We wanted to thank our last presidency with something they would keep. I took photos of the Junior primary holding papers with "thank" spelled out. Than the Senior Primary held "You" spelled out. During sharing time I had all the children sign their names on white photo mattes that had two photo slots. The finished frames were truly one of a kind going out gifts.
