We did our evening in excellence with virtue as our theme (Dec. 2009) We decorated the room and refreshment table with gold (The pretty metalic gold)and we used rubies for our complementing color. We had the girls each complete a different virtue experience. The leaders got up and explained what virtue means and why the value was added. Then each YW got up and explained their virtue value experience and what they learned. We handed out gifts to girls which included our favorite scripture :"Who can find a virtuos women? for her price is far above rubies" (Proverbs 31:10) We all left there with a greater understanding of Virtue and why it is so important in these times! Great night!! Hope this helps.

WE are having a New Era Bowl tonight using the November (Conference Edition) of the New Era. I would like to share it with anyone interested. I had the kids study the sections that specifically covered conference, as well as the article on Virtue. I had one extra section called Potpourri. The kids will be able to bring their copies of the New Era with them, but hopefully will know the answers without using them. Some questions are pretty though, so if they haven't read, then they are DOOMED. Hope it goes well. I have some leftover cd's and t-shirts from EFY for prizes. Here are the links for the games. http://jeopardylabs.com/play/new-era-bowl1 and http://jeopardylabs.com/play/double-jeopardy-new- era-bowl
My Final Jeopardy question is :"Without looking, this BOM prophet pictured on the front cover of the New Era lived around 124 BC." Enjoy!

I was on this site a few days ago and found a craft idea and now can't find it anywhere. It is a picture of the temple w/ decopauge. It had vinyl lettering under the temple and it hung with a ribbon. Can anyone help? We'd like to have our young women do this project. Thanks!

For a virtue activity night, we did a "Victress Virtue Virtual Tour." We life-sized each value experience into stations (1-4). We posted scriptures in large font, provided scriptures for reading, journals, anything that was necessary for the girls to complete the value experience. We also had a corner of the room set up with air mattresses, etc., so the girls could begin/continue to read the Book of Mormon. The girls were able to go from station to station and complete whichever of the value experiences they wanted to. Some girls ended up completing all 4 experiences that night. Of course, we had plenty of goodies for snacking on too! For fun, we put together a list of great V words and definitions for the girls to enjoy as well...Victory, victress, virtue, value, vanquish, vibrant, victorious, veracious, veracity, valiant, vade mecum (scriptures?), etc.

This site is great - thank you! However, I am the YW president in Rwanda (and the first one too, they have not held YW before now) and we have no resources, budget, or even treats that we're used to - when I was called I didn't even have a pair of scissors in the house! Please please please post activities that require no resources! Thank you.

You can find it at www.theideadoor.com and look under "temple craft" or something similar.

@ Rwanda Pres
One of my favorite activities I did as a young woman was a game called Bigger or Better. Divide the girls into two teams and give them each an item. It can be a paper clip, some old Christmas ornaments, or even rocks you find on then ground. Give each of the teams a route of different houses in the ward and tell them they need to go to each door asking the occupant to trade their item for one of theirs. The only requirement is that the item must be bigger OR better than their current item. It also helps if they try to make their item sound incredible. They do this to each house. Whichever team has the coolest item wins.

To the sister in Rwanda. You are a pioneer, congratulations!
No resources is so difficult.
The best activities I had for my girls was giving service. The girls always learn to appreciate what they have. Scripture activities can be low-cost or no cost.
Have a guest speaker teach the girls skills for homemaking or first aid or job/education.
Best wishes to you.

For the last 3 years out ward has done a Veterans dinner for all the Vets in our ward and neighborhood. We have it as a sit down dinner and have the YW & YM serve. We do a program and then we introduce each branch with their song. We ask a few of the Vets to talk about 5 mins about their service. I know the kids enjoy hearing their talks and the Vets enjoy telling the kids about their service.

I have to provide a magnet that lists all the big events of the year on it for the Young Women (given to them at New Beginnings) and was wondering if anyone has a cute idea of how to design/create the magnet. Thanks!

If you have both a Pres. member and a class adviser, one of them can escort the transitioning Laurel to the RS meeting once a month. The sister would stay with the YW for the RS meeting. Make a pretty presentation of the RS manual for the 1st visit and she can have it for each visit for the remainder of the year. Schedule the visits for once a month, or closer as time comes for graduation from YW to RS.

I'm a new YW leader and wanted to go meet all the girls in my class and take them a little something and introduce myself. Any cute ideas for what I could take to get them interested in coming? We have a lot of less active girls who have never come before!

to #24 D. Hammond. We have the girls take the handouts to those who weren't there for activities or classes. We also assign girls to call the less actives and invite them to do normal fun things with them like watch a movie or go to a game.

To the Rwandan YW president,
If you have access to a computer and internet for your activities, maybe creating a profile of your faith and your story on mormon.org. Also, learning life skills is something our group of girls here need- that is no cost and we use what we have.

To the Rwanda Sister,
Last night our YW activity was teaching the girls to be healthy. We ran laps around the church came back inside and had the girls and leaders
do sit ups, crunches, lunges and more! Basically it was an exercising night to promote good health!

We are making bouquets of cake pops to give our mothers.

The Valued Colored Proclamation is found at www.theideadoor.com under the Personal Progress section of the Young Women area. We did this as an activity and it was great!
