Dec 29 2012 23:25:02 | evelyn - Trouble editing powerpoint
David, I love your powerpoints and so do my students. I always like to edit them to fit my class, but I seem to have lost that ability recently. I can only open the pptx files in Powerpoint Viewer. When I try to open them in Powerpoint to edit them, a pop-up tells me this file cannot be opened because it may be corrupt. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
-

Evelyn, The files are not protected, that I'm aware of. You should be able to edit it. If you are using 2010 version of Power Point, the pptx version should be able to be opened. Otherwise all versions should be able to use the .ppt version. In the .ppt version, there are a couple of slides that are not editable because these are created as .pptx first and then saved as .ppt after it's close to finished. I haven't heard of anyone else having a problem with them. If someone knows what's happening and how to fix it, I'll be glad to help. dh

Jan 04 2013 03:29:23 | evelyn - Trouble editing powerpoint
David, I am using the 2010 version. I have had my more computer-savy children look at this problem, but they have no idea either. We have checked our anti-virus, but it wasn't that. The files are obviously downloading ok, because I can see all the pages in PP Viewer. However, I still can't open them in the PP programme itself nor edit them . The first message I get reads "Powerpoint has found a problem with the content in p5-2 Lesson 2 - The apostasy and the Need for the Restoration of Jesus Christ's Church.pptx. Powerpoint can attempt to repair the presentation. If you trust the source of this presentation, click Repair." Then when I click repair, after several seconds, the next message appears: "There was an error accessing.... [the file name]". I have checked back and lesson 44 from last year still opens okay for editing. But the end of year BOM Jeopardy was the first time I starting getting problems and could not open it for editing. Any ideas?

Try using the other version of the presentation. See if that works any better and please let me know. When you click on the link above to access the powerpoint, you can open the file, or save the file. Which ever way you are trying to access the program, if you click on the other way, does it make any difference? Please let me know.

I have tried it every which way on both file types and I just get the same messages. What about if you tried emailing me the powerpoint file direct to my email, bypassing the website? Do you think that would make any difference? [evelyn@mercman.net]

David, first let me say how much we appreciate all the work you put into your powerpoints. We used them the end of last year and the children enjoyed them very much.
I am having some sort of trouble with this years ppt. I cannot open any of them. When I double click to open it just shows me a yellow sign with a red exclamation mark. Do you have any idea what I am doing incorrectly?
Thank you for your time.
Debbie

Hi Debbie, I'm not doing anything different this year, that I didn't do last year. I just tried to download the .pptx version above and it loaded in ok. I've never heard of the yellow sign with the red mark before. If any other users have an idea what might be happening, please speakup, these power points are of no value if you can't use them. Anyone else having problems using them?

Hey Debbie - I got the same triangle with the exclamation point; it's your security blocking a 'pop up'. If you hit the control key at the same time as you click on the link, you'll be able to pull it up. It will override the pop up blockers.
Hope that helps!

Jan 05 2013 09:58:45 | Debbie Kinjo - JEOPARDY WAS PURE GENIUS!
Thank you so very much for the Jeopardy game! What a fun way to review the year - Valiant 11 children and adult team teachers loved it. We especially liked that it wasn't too easy and made them think. It obviously took a lot of extra time and preparation and we just wanted to let you know it was used and greatly enjoyed. Thank you for your efforts!
