* 2012 Primary Bulletin Board Idea by Wendy Burningham

* (Idea by Sister Perrins / ga11262011) - "We are going to use a theme based on trees.  I am going to have a giant banner with a picture of a black tree with sturdy trunk, roots, and branches-"The Walnut Grove CTR Tree."   Each month I will place three leaves in a cluster on the tree-one will have the month, one will have the scripture, and one will have the theme.   We will fill the tree with leaves by the end of the year.   I wrote a poem that will be displayed next to the tree on a giant leaf-Making the choice well in advance, to choose the right when given the chance.  Will plant our roots firmly in the ground, when temptation and trial come around.  Our trunks will stand tall.  Our branches will not break.  As we stand for the right, in the choices we make.   I purchased a mini tree at Goodwill and decorated with a festive birthday skirt, simple balloons on top, and a sign that says "CTR Birthday Tree."  We hung colored CTR bracelets on it and will place it in front of the room for birthdays."

* Veronica writes, "Here is  our Primary Board of the new 2012 theme, Choose the Right." / ga12192011 (The background paper

is just scrapbook paper butted together....about 20 sheets.)

* April writes, "I did an owl theme for our board :) This year we are doing a "CTR" moment this year in Primary. I have our owl saying "Look whooo's choosing the right".  Each week we are going to have a parent of one of our Primary children come up and tell them what their child did the week before that was Choosing The Right! I have put their names on the owls and will change them every month." (Shared by April Ulrich / ga12272011)

We are in the Stake Center and have four wards that meet in our building.  At first we were told that we are not allowed to put anything up that is permanent.  Everything has to come down every week.  That makes it a bit difficult to have a "bulletin board."  As a presidency we decided that we wanted something other than just printing out the theme and scripture for the month and putting it on our roll away chalk board.  Here is what we came up with. We put this up on our rolling chalk board.  It has the yearly theme Choose the Right across the top.  Then a spot for the Scripture, Theme and Article of Faith.  Theses are in sheet protectors held up by binder clips that I sewed on.  All of the wording is material.  I cut everything with my cricut.  It works for our Primary. (Kasey Andruski of the Maple Ward- Hesperia California / ga06062012)

"This is our bulletin board idea for 2012.  Each month the children will open a new piece of gum which will reveal the monthly theme."  (Idea shared by Heidi Cannon / ga12112012)

and branches-"The Walnut Grove CTR Tree."   Each month I will place

three leaves in a cluster on the tree-one will have the month, one

will have the scripture, and one will have the theme.   We will fill

the tree with leaves by the end of the year.   I wrote a poem that

will be displayed next to the tree on a giant leaf-Making the choice well in advance, to choose the right when given the chance.  Will plant our roots firmly in the ground, when temptation and trial come around.  Our trunks will stand tall.  Our branches will not break.  As

we stand for the right, in the choices we make.   I purchased a mini

tree at Goodwill and decorated with a festive birthday skirt, simple balloons on top, and a sign that says "CTR Birthday Tree."  We hung colored CTR bracelets on it and will place it in front of the room for birthdays.

As an incentive we will add the child's shield and photo to the tree when they give a talk, perform a musical number, or bare their testimony in Primary.[/quote]
The General Primary Board emphasizes no children's testimonies in primary except if the child is giving a talk in op/cl exercises.

My counselor came up with ours. It is going to have a gumball machine on it,with a sign above it saying "Chews the right". We are going to put numbers 1-13 in the machine and each month choose a new number; whatever number is chosen that is the article of faith we will learn.

We're using a tree theme displaying a giant banner with a sturdy tree. Each month we'll place 3 leaves in a cluster on the tree with the month, scripture, & theme. At years end we'll fill the tree showing all we've learned. I wrote a poem to display next to the tree on a giant leaf: Making the choice well in advance, to choose the right when give the chance. Will plant our roots firmly in the ground, when temptation and trial come around. Our trunks will stand tall. Our branches will not break. As we stand for the right, in the choices we make. To present the theme we're going to bring in a large ficus tree with white lights. We ordered CTR sun catchers from A+Engraving and will have them hanging on the tree with a copy of the poem. They will each get one. For b-days we got a mini tree, decorated it with plastic balloons on top, a festive birthday skirt, and a topper that reads "CTR Birthday Tree" & hung colored CTR bracelets on it. It will be up front to remind us to CTR.

We are going to make up an image of a child dressed in the armor of the Lord holding a CTR shield. We will take a photo of each child and Teacher and then superimpose their face over the face of the 'warrior'. They will all be cut out and then placed on the board around a banner that reads, "I will be Valiant and Choose The Right!" The children love seeing themselves on the board, Teacher's too. Very Personal.

  • HEATHER PETERS

We are going to put up a house in the middle of the board with a CTR shield on it. The banner will read "Choosing the Right Strengthens My Home and Family". Each month we will have a challenge for the children that goes along with the Sharing Time theme for the month. If they complete the challenge that month they get to put something on the board to decorate it with their name on it. (ex. snowflakes for January, hearts for February and so on) This will make it interactive with the children and make it fresh and interesting all year long.

  • jenica

can you give me the info for a+ engraving and what exactly the sun catchers are? is the poem engraved on the sun catcher? i love the idea and would like to use it for our primary!

  • AngelaSLC

My thought was to use "super heroes" to help teach our theme this year. For the bulletin board, I am going to do a big graphic of a super hero cape with the CTR crest on the back. The border of the bulletin board will have the words: courage, strength, and faith. Most of the sharing time lessons focus on a prophet or figure from the scripture, so we are going to put some of these "heroes" around the room. I am also making a super hero cape with the CTR crest that one of the kids will get to wear during the spotlight (we only have 25 kids so we can easily spotlight each of the kids this year).

  • Heather Rumbaugh

We're including the entire branch by asking them to answer a question that relates to the theme of the month. ex "a time for thanksgiving" we asked who are what are you thankful for and pin it to the board. Dec-who/what brings you joy; Jan-resolutions; Feb-Love one another, how do you show love for others. That's as far as we have gotten. If anyone has any ideas for the rest of the year please pass them along. Thanks

  • melonie

We want to do something with a cookie jar to track our articles of faith... the kids will add a little cookie image to the board when they pass off an article of faith. Any clever sayings that have to do with choose the right and cookies and articles of faith?

  • RLA

We are going with the gumball machine("Chews" the Right)idea as well. We'll have a gumball machine birthday poster and put "gumballs"(laminated circles with childrens photos)up for each month of birthdays(we'll attach a ribbon at the end of the year for a Christmas ornament). I found a cute gumball machine cookie jar that we'll put keyring flashlights("Choose the Right...Follow His Light";)in that they'll get to pick out for their birthday. We're not actually using any real gum.

  • Kiesha Baldwin

This past year our kiddos loved being spotlighted and wanted to continue the trend so we came up with a different way. Our bulletin will have a newspaper theme with the headline "In the Choose News". Each week we will spotlight a child who shares a way they chose the right. They will then be added to the board and by the end of the year we should have some pretty fabulous news!

  • Allison W

We are planning on going with the "Chews the Right" theme. I'm going to make a big gumball machine on the board, with "We can 'Chews' the Right" on top of the board. Each week as we spotlight a child, we will ask their parents a time that they chose the right, and type this onto a colored gumball, with their picture. We will add them to our gumball machine throughout the year. It should be cute! We did something similar with "Scripture Heroes" this past year, and the kids loved it!

  • Viki

We are thinking of going with the theme "Choose ye this day whom ye will serve, but as for me and my HOUSE we will serve the lord". We want to start with a large house, with a CTR incorporated onto it somehow. Then with each new month's theme, we will put up a part of the house (like a child/family, a tree, a gate, a cloud, etc.) Anyone have any great ideas for clip art that we can enlarge for the wall?

  • Stephbrad

I had an idea to do spotlight ctr shields. We will make up a spotlight questionaire in the shape of a ctr shield. We will then give it to the parents to fill out. One of the questions will be...how has your child chose the right and followed the Savior? or something like that. We could also ask the parents to put a picture of the child on the shield...each week e will spotlight a new child and hang up their shield.

Veronica where did you get your background paper...and side paper on your board. I love your idea.

  • camille larsen

Veronica, where do you get the background and border for that sweet bulletin board?

  • Skousen

Veronica, Thank you for the Bulletin Board idea! I would like to copy it for my own ward. Could you tell me where you found the pictures for each month? Also, what are the specs for the lettering?
    Thanks!

  • Tammy A Williams

Veronica, I too would like details on your bulletin board idea. Did you punch out the letters and where did you get pictures for each month? Thank you so much for your help.

  • mollywentzel

I really like this bulletin board where did you get the back ground ctr paper to cover the bulletin board? molly

  • snowfam3

so far our Idea is to create some type of path with stepping stones. that lead to a picture of the savior. On each stepping stone we will ask the children how they will choose the right. we are still brainstorming... but this is our thought so far

  • Patricia M.

Veronica! Love your bulletin board. Where did you get the pictures for each month?

  • SusieA

Besides the theme & scripture, our bulletin board will have a large house on it. Every week, we will add one or two slips of paper to the bulletin board with the name of a child & what they have done to choose the right (info acquired from parents and/or teachers). Our goal is to have all of the children on the board by September so we can use the fantastic examples of the children choosing the right in our primary program in the fall.

  • stacie smith

I'm going with the tree idea and using the CTR shield as leaves for the kids' photos. We are trying to reenforce the sharing of testimonies. As an incentive we will add the child's shield and photo to the tree when they give a talk, perform a musical number, or bare their testimony in Primary.

Does anyone have "As A Child of God" in sign language that we could teach the children?

  • beckmom6

I will try and send a picture, but we made a generic CTR Hero for the middle of our board with the title "CTR Super Heroes". We made copies of it on regular paper for each child to decorate how they wanted. We are using the CTR hero idea found on this site and having each child take pictures with their own CTR super hero when they have made good choices and we will post them on the board. We also are having each child write about someone who is a hero to them for making good choices. They can do this all through the year. We will post them as well.

There are some posters that have people from the scriptures and are titled "Who's your hero" We are using them on another board and talking about the righteous choices they made each time we change the picture. We are also doing the same with the Apostles to help the children get to know them better.

"Be the chocolate chip." http://www.lds-yw.blogspot.com/2011/10/new-book- for-lds-youth.html

Not necessarily a meaningful sentence on its own but if you give the story (which you can pretty much gather by her synopses of the book) it can mean something to them. You can 'be the chip' by knowing the articles of faith & practicing the things they teach us.

Hello April, where did you purchase your large tree for your owl poster? I really like what you did.

  • LEANIVA TAUA

Hi April, please let me know where I can get the star papers for the 8yr olds baptism or if you have a template you can send it to me.

  • Clairelou

Hi and thank you for your wonderful ideas! One thing that is puzzling me though - How have you got them up on the board? I can't see any drawing pins so i wondered if you had used a staple gun.

This year we are doing a spotlight for all the kids in primary following the order of their birthdates. On our hallway bulletin board, we have a place where ward members can leave comments about that child. The goal is to "catch" them choosing the right. I made a WANTED poster with the child's picture on it. It says, "WANTED, Catch me choosing the right! Watch me at home, work, school, and play.Tell us how you’ve seen (child's name) Choosing The Right…" The rest of the board was done with a western theme/cowboys. The ward has had a lot of fun with this. Each week we read a spotlight along with the comments left by ward members. The kids know that they are being watched now, so they have gone out of their way to be good

Hi I love your bulletin board, please where did you get the picture for each month? and also where did you get the picture of owl and the little owl? so cute. :-)

April- I love your idea for a bulletin board and I also wanted to know where you got your owls and tree. Will you e-mail me also. roxybroad@hotmail.com Thanks!!

I purchased the owl bulletin board set at Staples a year ago... I'm not sure if it is still there though, I haven't checked.

  • Jenn R

We are focusing on the Articles of Faith this year. I made a CTR shield for each child, and we are using a tri-fold board to keep track of their progress. We have Jr. Primary shields on the left side, "CHOOSE THE RIGHT" with the AOF of the month in the center, and Sr. Primary shields on the right side. As the children memorize the AOF we move their shield to the middle board. It's great to see all of their shields move over! On the back of the folds, I made a chart to keep track of the children and which AOF they memorized. It's nice because it can be displayed on a table, and then moved around the room as necessary. We take it into the hallway during the break to keep the Sr. Primary occupied while we wait for Jr. Primary to finish.
