How I learned to be happy by Tiersa Ludlow
I went to JoAnn's and bought 4 small mirrors to a package for .99 cents. I needed 5 packages. Then I am going to glue them on to decorated 1/4 sheets of card stock with the quote by President Harold B. Lee "Happiness does not depend on what happens outside of you but on what happens inside of you" and put a ribbon bow through the top so they can hang it up. (Idea by Cheryl Smith)
Quote from Harold B. Lee
I decorated the room as if we were having a party and made a big banner that said "Enjoy the Journey Now". I decorated with bright streamers and balloons with happy faces on them. I then made "Almond Joy" bouquets for the girls that said the same thing. I took little tin sand pales I got at the dollar store that had butterflies on them and filled with colored rock (I also got at the dollar store). I then bought a package of colored popsicle sticks and glued miniture Almond Joy candy bars to the sticks and placed them in the pail's. (The rocks held then in place). I then made a saying that said "Find JOY in the journey now" and glued it on a stick and placed in the middle of the bouquet. I used about 12 miniture candy bars per boquet. I only have 3 girls so it was faily inexpensive. It was great fun and truly put across the message of finding joy. (Idea by Dena Gibsxon / ga02072009)

You could talk about JOY being an acronym for J-Jesus Christ; O-Others; Y-Yourself. True joy comes when we put Christ first and serve others, then we too will have joy. Bring a cup to class and fill it 1/4 - 1/3 full with vinegar. In a plastic spoon, put 1/2 tsp. of baking soda. Make sure you have a tray underneath the cup as it will spill over. Use the spoon and stir it into the vinegar mixture. Discuss how serving Christ and others will cause our joy to overflow. Contrast one's feelings when you serve others compared to when you serve yourself. You could even tie in the Parable of the Spoon.
PERSONAL PROGRESS HELPS: These Personal Progress Goals pertain to the lesson. You could encourage the girls to work on one of these goals in the coming week.
