Covered Wagon Craft Tutorial
Make a braided rug - Use old clothes and scrap fabric. Cut strips of cloth approximately three inches wide. Sew three strips together at one end to start. Braid these together...it helps to anchor your braid on a chair or something. Keep braiding. As you get to the end of the strips sew on a new one. To make your rug coil one end of the braid into a tight circle. Sew the edges together with strong thread. Keep coiling and adding on to your strips till you get the size braid you want. When you are all done sew the end down.

I'd like to share a few free resources for those prepping for Treks:
http://www.mormontrek.net
The contents there are in the process of moving over to a permanent home at:
http://www.clothingthesaints.com
The clothing patterns and suggestions on each are accurate to the 1840-1865 era, and may be freely copied and shared for non-commercial use. This is a big, on-going project, so more information and resources will be added in the coming months and years.

I just blogged about the costumes we made the Primary children for Pioneer Day with specific instructions for making vests and bonnets.
