Money Saving Tip….

July 21st, 2008

Posted in Money Saving Tip by admin |

It is recommended that you keep your central air unit shaded from the sun. You also need to keep a 3 foot radius around it for air flow. An easy fix that has saved us money this year is an idea I had to shade it with a large patio umbrella. We had grass around the air conditioner so we used a small metal pipe and angled it in the ground beside the air conditioner and placed the umbrella in that. PVC pipe would also work. You could also use an umbrella stand, depending on the area around the air conditioner.

Another idea I saw on-line recently is to place a bowl of ice in front of a fan. It creates an indoor swamp cooler effect. It really works.

Ford Expeditions….a warning….

July 21st, 2008

Posted in Miscellaneous by admin |

A family we love lost their home last month because their Ford Expedition caught on fire by ITSELF while sitting in their carport, in the middle of the afternoon. Apparently there is a RECALL being sent out about them - a problem with the cruise control switch. If you have received a Recall notice, please don’t wait to take care of it. This family with 4 small children were lucky to get out right before their ceiling collapsed.

Help with a quote…

July 14th, 2008

Posted in Primary, Quotes by admin |

Please help me find a quote!  It went something like, “…don’t let our children learn that church is boring.”  I thought I saw or heard it within the last few months, maybe in conference or the Ensign?  We are using this in a teacher inservice.  Thanks!

Pioneer Song

July 6th, 2008

The organizers of our pioneer day activity are asking us to learn “Whenever I Think About Pioneers” (http://tinyurl.com/5k26s5).

My hand drawings are barely adequate. Is there anyone out there who has put together a poster for this great song? You know, I had never heard this song before this week! Please help!

Food made fun

July 3rd, 2008

Posted in Young Women by admin |

I am helping out a summer young women’s activity to help the girls in their personal progress projects.  We thought it would be fun to learn how to cut fruits and veggies in a fun and fancy way.  This could be making a watermelon basket, fruit/veggie bouquets, or cutting the food to garnish in a fancy way.  Does anyone know where I can find information on how to do this (books, websites, blogs, tips, techniques, pictures, etc.)?  Thanks!

Hi.  I just got back from a stake youth handcart trek. I had 10 kids in my family. I wanted to give them a little something to remember trek by. The stake is making I survived trek 2008 t-shirts. I just wonder if anyone has any ideas for a little handcart gift. Thanks so much. - Janarah

Does anyone know if there is any group for wives of bishoprics or branch presidencies?  What are some things the wives do or are responsible for?  Thanks.

Internet Options

June 19th, 2008

Posted in Miscellaneous by admin |

My husband and I are moving to Utah (Weber County) in a week and are trying to figure out the least expensive option for high-speed internet.  Money will be tight so we just wanted to get an idea of what others out there use and if we will even be able to afford it.  We’ve looked on-line but just wanted to see if anyone has anything that we’ve missed.  It is pricier than we had anticipated.  Thanks for your help!

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to teach “Called to Serve” to the Primary children. I have to teach that for the month of July, and I’m kind of drawing a blank! Thanks!

Summer Staycation

June 18th, 2008

Posted in Summer Activities by admin |

We have 4 children (10g, 8b, 6g, and 2g).  Money is tight (and gas is so expensive) and I’m looking for Summer Staycation (since we’ll be staying near home) ideas.  Our family is in some transition this year…Dad left his FT job and began freelancing a few months ago.  Because his hours have been sparse at start-up, I went back to work.  Now we’re both working about ½ time (him a bit more than me).

I don’t want our summer schedule to be “Sleep until you wake up, eat cold cereal while in a cartoon-trance, run wild through the neighborhood in your swimsuit, crash & burn from sugar highs & lows, and random complaints of rampant boredom.”  That’s what we’ve done for the last couple of summers.  ;)

I thought tonight after boy’s baseball game we’ll make a big list of what everyone “wants” to do this summer…we will explain that we won’t be able to do ALL of them, but we’re hoping to get some great ideas to put on the calendar.

Any ideas???

Thanks!

I am making thank you gifts or presents to give to the camp leaders. The YCLs will end up giving the gifts to them (all in all we have about 50 leaders including priesthood). Our camp budget is two dollars for each gift.  Any ideas??

- Thanks!
