Library Scavenger Hunt

This scavenger hunt is meant as a basic introduction to the library services.  First we got a tour of the library, so they would know where things were, and how to look things up on the computer, etc. Then they did the scavenger hunt in groups of 2-3 girls. You could also remind them to bring their library card, so they can check things out.

Please remember to work quietly and efficiently! (hee, hee)

On the library floor:

1. Politely introduce yourself to one of the library staff members.  List his/her name:

2. Locate and browse through the biography section and list one title you’d like to read. (List one for each partner.)

3. Which Dewey number do you think has the most titles in our reference area? Why do you think there are so many books in this area?

4. How much does it cost to make a photocopy in the library?

5. List three of our bound magazine titles? Which magazine goes back the furthest? How far back does it run?

6. Locate the library’s journal list, or find the magazine area. Copy the titles of three magazines you didn’t know the library had.

7. Locate a recent volume of Current Biography and list a citation for a profile of an athlete.

8. Locate Contemporary Musicians and list the citation for one of your favorite artists or groups.

9. Browse through the fiction section, and list the name of one famous author sharing the first initial of each partner’s last name.

10. Where is the microfilm reader/printer and when would you use it?

11. Where is the career collection located?

12.  Libraries hold many community classes and events.  What is the next one being held?
