Scripture Basketball
Idea by Shannon
An idea
that we did the other night was to sing through the books of the scriptures
songs and then to play Scripture Basketball. We divided the girls into two
teams and one team had to shoot a little plastic ball into the garbage can
from behind a line (to see how many baskets they could get) while the other
team was busy looking up the scripture. As soon as all the girls scripture
chasing found it, the other team counted up their 'baskets' and then they
switched places. They enjoyed it. I gave Hershey's Kisses for the first one
to find it.
Then I had made up a quick scavenger hunt using words and clues from the
scriptures. We just did it in the halls of the church and they had fun
finding "refreshments."
Here are the clues:
Alma 34:26 - closet
Psalm 41:9 - heel (I
was going to put this one on the bottom of my shoe, but I forgot)
Genesis 40:22 -
hanged (hangers)
Exodus 12:23 - door
Leviticus 26:4 - rain
(we put it on a rain gutter outside, but it wasn't raining so... =)
Malachi 3:8 - tithes
(the tithing slip box)
Numbers 33:9 -
fountain (drinking fountain)
Exodus 35:3 Ire -
(extinguisher)
There is a key word or clue in each scripture and the girls had to find them
on their own. Not too hard. It is kind of tricky getting the right
clues in the right places, but they had
fun once we got it figured out. One word of caution though, we had to help
them remember that we were in the Lord's house and that we still needed to
be reverent. I have 14 Beehives and they can get a little out of hand. At
the end I had the clue Matthew 7:7 "Ask and it shall be given you," then I
just pulled out the treat and passed them around.
If you have some extra time, you could make
Scripture cookies
for refreshments. Tha'ts what I did. We played the game first and then
I had them search for the scriptures containing the ingredients and then
guess what it was a recipe for.
