Faith Factor
by Melissa Cass
My Beehive counselor presented a fun combined activity
based on faith. She had the girls bring their scriptures and divide into two
teams. She tried to split up the seminary students so that the teams would
be more fair. She had the teams look up a scripture. The team that had all
their scriptures opened to the correct page got a point. Then the counselor
talked about that scripture and how it relates to faith, etc. The team that
won that point got to choose a challenge. She had paper grocery sacks with a
title - giving a slight hint to what the challenge might be. The teams
played the challenge and whoever won the challenge got a point. It was a
great way to use the scriptures but still have fun. The seminary girls were
really good about helping the other girls find their scriptures.
The counselor discussed what faith is, is faith all you need, what is the
opposite of faith and more. She had some quotes and stories to go along with
each point. You could do scripture stories that show faith instead. The
point was to get the girls in the scriptures and talking about faith.
Here are a couple of the challenges the girls had. Maybe it will spur other
ideas -
Black hole - (2 girls from each team, blindfold one and she has a
couple of balls, the other is holding a can or bowl, the one blindfolded has
to throw the balls into the can, the one to get 3 into a can wins)
Holding on by a thread - (how many fish can you pick up in 30 seconds
using a fishing pole, the one with the most wins)
Drop Zone - (2 girls from each team, one stands on chair while the
other lays on the floor, the one standing drops popped popcorn or goldfish
into the other ones mouth - the one laying down could use a cup, first one
to get 3 into the mouth or cup wins)
Slime Ball - (team effort - give every one a
grape, the first team to have all their grapes skinned wins)
Breathtaking - (2 girls from each team - each
team is at the end of a table and each has a straw, drop a cotton ball in
the middle of the table the first one to blow the cotton ball off the other
end of the table wins)
Creepy Crawly - (team effort - everyone has a cup and chopsticks, the
girl at the first of the line has a bowl of gummy worms, she used her
chopsticks to pick up one gummy worm at a time and places it in the cup next
to her, each girl uses her chopsticks to pass the worm to the next cup, the
one with all the gummy worms to the last cup wins)
Ice Melt - (the first team to melt an ice cube
holding in their hands wins)
