We are doing a luau for our mutual next week. This is what were are planning on doing:

     * Pay their "tithing"

Island #2: Maui

     * Build Hygiene kits as a service project
     * Create letters and cards for service men

Island #3: Molokai

Island #4: Hawai'i

- Color: Red

- Room: Cultural Hall
- Activities
     * Practice run before this Saturday's Super Saturday event
     * Cake decorating practice (Build your own birthday cake event)
     (Super Saturday is the the 3rd Saturday of every month that we meet at the Stake Center. They have seminary at 5 pm then a stake wide youth activity from 7-9 pm. This month is an unbirthday party for everyone. Their will be one cake for every 7 kids. So we will be bringing 2 cakes. The competition is decorate the best birthday cake.)

Island #5: Lanai

- Color: Orange
- Theme: Knowledge
- Room: Primary Room
- Activities:
     * Make your own CTR tees
     * Make beaded and shell "hemp" bracelets and necklaces
     * Candy leis

In the beginning, everyone will receive $250 (play money - $5, $10, $20).  So their tithing amount would be $25. If they pay less, they receive fewer points.  They receive 0 points for Faith if they don't tithe at all.

Each room is assigned a color because a color is assigned to each island "in real life."

Missionaries: I would like them to talk to our YM about preparing for a mission and to talk about the importance of going to the temple.

We are going to buy blank Tees and we will teach them how to iron on logos.

They do rotate through at their own will. They can stay in the tiki lounge all night, if they want. It is up to them to seek all of the islands. That is the way life is.

POINTS: Each room/island is worth 25 points.

Lanai:

(+) If they make a bracelet and a CTR tee.
(-) If they purchase coconut / shell bras at this island

Hawai'i:

(+) If they come in to practice for Super Saturday event

Molokai:

(+) If they purchase water
(-) If they purchase a tropical drink

Maui:

(+) If they put together hygiene kit
(+) If they create a card/letter to a service man/woman

O'ahu:

(+) Pay their full tithing
(-) Do not pay their full tithing

At the end of the night, everyone is going to come back to the island where the tiki lounge was at. During their discussion about what each of the islands meant, we are going to take their "passports" and add up their points. We have decided to give each youth a special lei. White for those with the highest points. Yellow for the next range of points. Blue for last group. We are not mentioning the degrees of glory. Just a small reminder of "Choice and Accountability".

I pulled this information from YWConnection:

  1. O’ahu :: Faith à Mana'o'i'o (Ma-Nah-oh-ee-oh)
  2. Maui :: Good Works à Hana Maika'i (Ha-nah My-ka-ee)
  3. Molokai :: Choice & Accountability à Koho a me kuleana (ko-hoe ah may ku-lei-ah-na) means choice and responsibility
  4. Hawai’i :: Individual Worth à Kanaka Wai Wai (Ka-nah-ka vai vai) (worthy or wealthy man/person)
  5. Lanai :: Knowledge à Naauao (Nah-ow-ah-o) this is a tongue twister, literally this means guts, as in your gut feeling, what you know.
