Battle of the Sexes
by Randi Harris / ga03172007

The basic idea is to set up stations in the cultural hall using tasks that are generally stereotyped one gender or another. Then we pair up the youth (one boy and one girl or 1 boy and two girls - whatever we have numbers for) and they have to go through the course. If a station is traditionally something that girls would be better doing, then we will call it a "pink" station - which means that the BOY has to do the task while the girl coaches him through it. Then the next station would be a "blue" station, and the girl would have to do it while the boy coaches. Every station is run by a leader who knows how to do the task and can also give tips if necessary.

Each station should take between 2-4 minutes, and should be able to accommodate 2 teams at a time.

Each team will be given a score card which will require a signature from the adult in charge of the station when the task is complete. The entire event will be timed, and the team that comes in first gets to be first in the dessert line!

The Laurels (who were in charge) called an adult to be in charge of each station. We thought it would be best to let each leader bring the items for their own stations. That way they would know exactly what they were working with and could set it up the way they wanted it.

Blue Stations:

- Use a ratchet thing to screw in some screws or hammer and nails
- Tie a lure onto a fishing line
- Check tire pressure and adjust to the correct level (bring spare tires in)
- Throw 3 footballs through an inner tube (or similar)
-Tie a tie
-Match logo or mascot to correct sport  (ie: Cubs to baseball, Magic to basketball)

Pink Stations:

- Separate an egg and hand whip the white to stiff peaks.
- Strap on a baby carrier put a 10 lb bag of flour in it, and while carrying that, change the diaper on another doll.
- Iron a shirt
- Thread a needle and sew on a button
- Make a Perfect waffle
- Identify which stain can be removed with which method (like a matching thing)

Then we used the waffles we made for dessert with ice cream and chocolate sauce. They had a great time, and it wasn't too much work for any one leader.
