We decorated the gym like a wedding reception. One of
the leaders talked to the girls about how her daughter had a coin
collection that was very special to her and how we all have things that
are very special to us and as she spoke she put the coins in an envelope
and then also said that family was the most important. She then
turned the envelope upside down and all the coins fell out she then said,
"how did that happen?" Of course all the girls said "well, you
didn't have the envelope sealed." Then they all said "Oh, we get
it."
She then proceeded to explain that it is important that we are sealed
together with our families. We then talked about the
temple cans and what we put in
them. We had them write a letter to themselves and explained that we
would seal up the cans for them to open later.
We had two returned missionaries come and played
the man of your dreams or
the man of your nightmares where we had scriptures that associated either
a man of your dreams or a man of your nightmares.
After, the girls read a scripture they then picked out a prop that matched
the scripture and gave it to one of the returned missionaries. We
looked in the topical guide for ideas on:
- honoring priesthood, and then we had a set of scriptures
- we then looked for something about a slothful person and our prop was a
remote control and a bag of chips (i.e. couch potato)
- then we had a jar of money and we looked for a scripture on worldly
possessions
- we used a statue of Christ and found a scripture on following Christ
That was how we did it with the scriptures and props. The returned
missionaries then talked about what they were looking for in a young
women. One young man had even made a list and talked a little bit
about his list. In the end we had the young men put back on their
props and had the young women each stand between them with her hands held
towards each of them like she was trying to decide which she would choose
the man of her dreams or the man of her nightmares and we then took their
picture. It was fun.
