Medieval Dinner
by Michelle in California
We did the Medieval Dinner for our Youth
Conference, but it would work great for a ward activity. We divided tables
into 'kingdoms' - each had a different color. Dinner was chicken, corn on
the cob, rolls, twice baked potatoes - it was all finger food - no utensils.
We served it on pie tins which we borrowed from Marie Calendars. The serving
wenches were the 11-12 year olds with a wreath of flowers on their heads.
Each Kingdom had a knight with a colored smock ( just colored material with
head hole cut out and then tied at waist). For the program we did:
Pugil Sticks -(jousting on the beam)
Javelin Contest- We hooked a hula hoop from the basketball hoop by a
string, then with a Nerf arrow they tried to see how many they could get
through hoop as it swayed back and forth (you could use pvc pipe and pad the
end of it to throw through if you didn't have Nerf arrows)
Jousting Contest - we had 2 ramps and our knights sat on a skateboard and
rode down the ramp with jousting sticks.
We did one other one, but it had to be well supervised - Crossbow Shooting.
We had balloons with helium attached with strings to board which was on the
ground and at far end of hall (away from guests). They shot the crossbow
(yes a real one) at the balloons to see how many they could pop. The
winner of each competition got to present a lovely maiden from their kingdom
with a rose. We went all out and had the king and Queen seated on thrones
overseeing the competition with a MC announcing the competitions and
encouraging cheering for your knight, etc... We played the song 'We will
stomp you' to get them in the mood. We had insignias for the counties on the
walls, etc... It was really fun!
