The Little Red Hen

"With Love, The Little Red Hen" is a cute retelling of the story of the Little
Red Hen who does all the work. (You might be able to find this at your
local library). I used the following quote from President Hinckley - "Work
is the miracle by which talent is brought to the surface and dreams become
reality. There is simply no substitute under the heavens for productive labor.
It is the process by which idle visions become dynamic achievements." I
used a hen and her chicks for the clip art next to the saying. (Idea

I gave lesson 6 on Sunday and taught it a lot like a FHE lesson. At the
beginning of the lesson I had 3 baby food jars half full of whipping cream that
I passed out to the girls and told them to shake them a bit and then pass the
jar on. I gave the lesson as presented
in the manual except I used one of the newer stories listed in the Resource
Guide about the family with the broken dishwasher instead of the story about the
family fixing up the shed. When we read Doctrine & Covenants 42:42 it reminded
me of the story of the Little Red Hen-- the scripture says something about the
idle not getting to eat the bread. Anyway I read the story of the little red
hen, talked a little about the benefits of working together and by then the jars
of whipping cream had been shaken into butter and I had rolls and the butter the
girls worked together to make for them. I prepared a handout with the Neal A.
Maxwell quote and used that to sum up the lesson. It went really well. (Idea by
Suzy Dutson)
