Chocolate Gold Coins with the following attached, "The price of financial
freedom is sweet, but it comes at a price."
I am going to get a few bags of the gold coins and give them each
2 or 3 coins. Explain what a satisfying and "sweet" feeling it is to be in
control of your money. (Idea by Rosana Sorensen)

Financial Responsibility by Camille Shosted
The lesson has a simple budget plan that you could use to show
how to write a personal budget. You could take some game money like
monopoly, etc. and use it in place of checks and create a fun "life" game. You
would start by defining their income based on either their desires or pull them
at random from a jar. Give each girl the total of her week's salary. Start with
the different monthly bills they will likely always have - - house, car,
education, etc. Then for the different jobs or combined you can do a "surprise"
jar like the chance and community chest cards in Monopoly. These will be
unexpected expenses or nice surprise increases. It would help show the girls
more about budgeting and managing money in a more "tangible" way. For
check writing, you can create your own on your computer. I don't know how much
time you'd like to spend on it, but it would be fun to give each girl a copy of
checks that had her own information on them and make them look all official. I
don't know what programs you have, but you can find a ton of great ideas from
any check sites online. Simply copy the image of the picture (right click, then
"copy image") and paste it into a program like Word or Publisher. Then draw
a text box over the name info and type in the girl's info. Everything else could
stay the same and you could print out as many as you wanted.
