THESE THINGS MAKE ME HAPPY (bring them as display) - MS
Living Magazine, a Shoe, picture of family, Scriptures, camera, box of cookie
mix, Hymnbook.
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?
Some of these things bring us TRUE happiness and some of these things bring us
only happy moments or moments when we have fun.
WHAT ARE THE THINGS GOD HAS GIVEN US THAT GIVES YOU TRUE HAPPINESS.
Scriptures, temple, families, nature and the holy ghost.
WHAT ARE THE COMMANDMENTS GOD HAS GIVEN US ON EARTH THAT GIVES YOU TRUE
HAPPINESS.
Even keeping the commandments bring us happiness – paying tithing, chastity,
honoring our parents and serving others.
SERVING OTHERS IS A COMMANDMENT THAT WILL MAKE US HAPPY
MAIN QUOTE:
In any land, in any city, in any home, in any life, there are opportunities all
around to stretch our lives and our interests in behalf of others. … If we want
joy in our hearts, if we want the Spirit of the Lord in our lives, let us forget
ourselves and reach out. Let us put in the background our own personal, selfish
interests and reach out in service to others” President Hinckley
The GOOD SAMARITAN
READ Luke 10:30-37
• What two people passed by and didn’t help? (A priest and a Levite; verses
31-32.)
• Why do you think these religious leaders did not offer to help?
• Who stopped to help? (A Samaritan; verse 33.)
• How did the Jews and the Samaritans feel about each other? (See Bible
Dictionary, “Samaritans,” 768.)
• How did the Samaritan act in a Christ-like manner?
Reread Luke 10:34-35 and identify what the Samaritan did to help. Ask:
• How did he go the extra mile?
• What does this teach us about what we should do when we see someone in need?
“3 PEOPLE THAT HAVE INFLUENCED/HELPED YOU” EXERCISE
Handout that asks them to think of the 3 people that have influenced them or
helped them the most in their lives. And then a to write a list of ways they can
serve people 1) Church 2) Family 3) Friends
JUST LIKE THE SAMARITAN PROVIDE "AID" TO THE JEW, WE TOO CAN PROVIDE "FIRST AID"
TO THOSE AROUND US AND HELP OTHERS.
SHARE STORIES OF SERVICE
My mother used to always tell me – when I was sad or depressed to go find a way
to serve others and then I will no longer feel that way – and it was true. If
you are ever feeling sad for yourself, feel bad, lonely, depressed – first, pray
to Heavenly Father to help you, second go and find someone to serve and I
promise you, you will feel better. YOU CAN’T HELP BUT FEEL HAPPINESS WHEN YOU
SERVE SOMEONE ELSE
The First Aid kits have goodies in them to remind the girls to do acts of
service this week, such as Kisses (give someone a kiss and tell them you love
them), Kleenex (help someone that is sick feel better), gum ("chews" to help
someone in need), gummy bears (give someone a "bear" hug just because), etc.
