Temple Marriage Lesson Help
(Credit Unknown)

We just had the best combined lesson on temple marriage. She began by telling the girls that they were going to plan their weddings and asked all the things they would need to prepare. She had gotten rings at the craft store ( I guess they were favors to go on wine
glasses) and had them all put them on when they said they would need an engagement ring. They talked about all the different things that people usually plan for a big reception: choosing colors and food and decorations and bridesmaid dresses, etc. She had also made veils for all of them by taking a piece of white material and gathering it a few inches from the top and attaching it to a comb. They were of course so focused on the reception planning that no one brought up the fact that they would need a temple recommend. She
had them all put on the veils and gave them all a "temple recommend" that she had made and talked to them about how if they got married without all the other things that they had talked about (well, other than the fiancé), it wouldn't really matter in the eternities, but
the temple recommend was the one thing that was absolutely essential. Then she showed them one of the church videos about temples. There was such a beautiful spirit in the room with all of them in their white veils as they watched the video. There were a few minutes at the end for a few of them to bear testimonies. One Laurel had an older sister get married not in the temple and a brother get married in the temple and she spoke about how even though she couldn't go in to the ceremony in the temple she could feel so strongly the different spirit of that wedding even at the reception and how that was what she wanted for herself and how grateful she was for the reminder that keeping herself worthy of a temple recommend was the thing she needed to focus on now in order to have that in her future. Our Young Women president was inactive growing up and had been married about ten years and then about five years ago went through the temple and was sealed to her husband and children. She bore her testimony about the difference it had made in her life. She said it wasn't really that day-to-day life was all that different, but that their hearts were different. They now had the knowledge that they were working together with Heavenly Father to create a family that would last into the eternities knowing that they had been sealed together and that it brought a different spirit into their home. It was just a beautiful lesson. And of course she had made beautiful reception-like refreshments. And no, our lessons aren't usually nearly that elaborate.
