How Holly used Sneetches

I read the Sneetches and they really enjoyed that. We talked about how we're like the sneetches and how today's modesty issues and fashions are like the stars on the bellies. Instead of a negative twist, we talked about how modesty is our shield and protection against this most powerful tool of Satan's. . .who we discussed was just like the sly McMonkey McBean character and how sneaky he is telling someone what he knows they want to hear, caring only about himself and taking advantage of others by making them think the answers are in our outward appearance. I gave them a little handout with a picture of the snooty Sneech making the plain-belly Sneech feel bad and put Eleanor Roosevelt's quote of "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." across the top. I closed by handing out Hershey Kiss rose buds to everyone while singing the song "Who You Are". This idea hit me while listening to the CD "Women of Destiny" as I was working on my lesson, and man was it ever sent from a loving Heavenly Father. I started with the leaders as the first verse is so perfect for mothers feeling overwhelmed with daily tasks and responsibilities, then as the chorus of "Believe in what you're doing, Believe in who you are, Hold tight to the truth that you're a daughter of God, that He believes in who you're becoming, he believes in who you are." I started handing them out to the girls. The spirit was so strong and as the second verse began I knew exactly when to give one to my struggling laurel (Former Bishop and YW Pres. daughter). I handed hers to her as I sang the words, "and there's no one else like you, and Father needs you to stand tall and faithful to be all you can be - oh if you could see what He sees". She began to weep and then I started to cry and almost couldn't finish the song!! No one moved for a few minutes after the closing prayer because the spirit was still so wonderfully strong and none of us wanted it to end. I was pleasantly surprised at the number (and which) girls came up to me after the lesson and hugged me! I am so very grateful for a loving Heavenly Father who sent me some direction on how to touch the hearts of these wonderful women and young ladies and for letting His Spirit be there that day.
