Chocolate Chip Cookies DVD

We decided that we needed a new and fun way to reach out to our less-actives girls.  As a youth it’s always hard to walk into a room of girls (mutual, church etc) when you don’t know anyone.  It can be very intimidating.  So we thought we’d make a DVD of all of us making Chocolate chip cookies and introducing ourselves.  In the background you could see us making the cookies from scratch.  We had the girls add the ingredients and showed them how to pack brown sugar and measure flour, mix it etc.  (since some of their moms aren’t the cooking/baking type). Then as we were making our chocolate chip cookies, one by one the girls would step away and go to the camera and tell a little bit about themselves.

For example:  Hi, My name is Tasha and I’m 15 years old and a Mia Maid.  I go to Blank Blank High School and am really excited because this year I’ll turn 16 and get my license!  My favorite color is Hot pink and I LOVE pigs.  When I “grow up” I want to be a Vet.  I have 3 brothers and 2 sisters and love the music group blank.  My favorite TV show is Top Model and my favorite Movie is BIG.  So if you like Pink pigs and have annoying brothers and sisters I think we could quickly become fast friends” (etc. etc.)  We also made the leaders describe themselves so the girls would know who we were too!  (all the while in the background you can see the rest of us making cookies.  Then after everyone had done their part the oven suddenly went “ding” and we pulled out a batch of cookies (pre-made and cold)  We each took one and said yummm…these are good. Then got together and said as a group how we missed them and couldn’t wait to meet them!!  End of tape.  If any of the girls or leaders were not there then that next Sunday we pulled them aside and filmed them too!  My husband then edited the DVD and added a blank screen to the back of the movie.  On it, it read when we met for church and young women’s (times and location). He also added a picture of our local temple!  The next week we had each of the girls bring chocolate chip cookies they made at home and all went out and delivered our DVD of us making the cookies with a bag of cookies for the girl to eat while watching the DVD!  This helped our girls see where these girls lived and they also got to meet these girls.  We also gave it to our Stake Young Women leaders so they could get to know us when they visited!!
