We have had Sunday Visiting Teaching workshops for
years. At the start we thought they were fabulous...better attended, a
captive audience, etc. However, this year we went back to having one
on a Friday night and we LOVED it. We had more time to set up and make
things 'special" - harder to do on a Sunday, especially when four wards meet
in the same building. Since our program could go for a longer time we were
able to really use it as a 'teaching' time as well as an inspirational/motivating
time. We found we could have lovely spiritually motivating Sunday sessions
but not enough time to really dig deeper with training etc. We also had a
more enjoyable supper and relaxing social time afterwards. One of the
reasons some presidencies liked the Sundays was because it meant they didn't
have to have a dinner etc. We decided to forego the dinner and have a lovely
supper. We had a 'fruit' theme for the whole night "By their fruits ye shall
know them". Our centerpiece on the table out front was made up with oranges,
lemons and limes with yellow roses in between. The supper was mainly
beautiful fruit platters with other dessert type goodies made with fruits.
Also the toblerone dip with fruit pieces for dipping (strawberries etc..)
and of course a lovely fruit punch. We had some wonderful instruction from
sisters and the Bishop, musical items and nothing was rushed. By all means
try the Sundays. We did and the change was great. But for us, after years of
that the time is right to change back. Incidentally the attendance was
excellent!
