Clipart of story

Ten Virgins Coloring Sheet

We saved 10 milk jugs and cut the top off of them. Then we decorated them to look like oil lamps as in the story.  We filled 10 buckets with water and placed them across from each other spread out. We put one big serving spoon with each bucket. We gave them a time limit and placed each one in front of their bucket which we had put a fill line. The object is to fill to the line with out moving the bucket and before the time runs out. (Credit Unknown)

Attach to a small bottle of oil, "Got oil?"

Post this word strip: What would you do to prepare if you … ? Pass out to individuals these completions to the question: • want to grow your own fruits and vegetables? • want to bake chocolate chip cookies? • want to build a playhouse? • want to get 100% on your math test? • have an important guest coming for a few days? Have each child act out what they would do; let the other children guess what the preparation is. After the last one, say that someone important is coming.  Ask what the “oil” was and how we get it in our lives.

Sing “When He Comes Again” (CS, pp. 82–83), asking the children to listen for the things the song suggests that we do to prepare for the Savior’s coming (do His will each day, let our lights shine).

Oil Lamps from Deseret Book
Terra Cotta Oil Lamps - Judi Peck sells them on her site for only $2.50. They are not painted, you just have to paint them with terra cotta colored paint. She does sell them painted for $6.50, but at $2.50 each unpainted they are a steal! You won't find them cheaper anywhere else...you can't burn oil in these ones because they are not fired enough for burning but for decoration and displays, they are perfect.  The lamps are not shown on her site yet, but if you just e-mail her she will let you know the price for shipping and everything. She is a very sweet lady and so easy to work with!!!  (Idea by Vicki from www.lds-yw.com)
