Hands On Learning about the Temple
There are a lot of symbols in the temple that your family
might be asking now or later after they have already been through the temple.
You could rummage a few props around the house and explain the following:
WHITE CLOTH- All who enter
the temple must change from regular clothing to beautiful white clothing. This
represents the purity of the temple.
MIRRORS- Hold two mirrors
facing each other and you can see forever. The temple is a place where
everything is of eternal value. There are room with large mirrors facing each
other; everything seems to go on forever.
CLOCK- Time stands still
in the temple. It is a place of peace and mediation. It is a beautiful
place to pray and feel the Spirit of the Lord.
PRAYING HANDS - The temple
is a place of prayer. Special prayers for very sick or those with special needs
are offered in the temples.
DOVE- This signifies the
peace and quiet in the temple. Also, the scriptures talk about the Spirit of the
Lord in the form of a dove.
WEDDING RINGS - One of the
very special purposes of the temple is to seal families together forever. This
can only be done in temple by a Priesthood holder who has been given special
authority.
THREE CIRCLES- These are
the 3 "degrees" of glory represented in the temple. The Celestial Kingdom is
likened to the sun, Terrestrial to the moon, and the Telestial to the stars.
KEYS- In the temple we can
receive the keys to the Celestial Kingdom.
CAR- The temple is our
vehicle to the Celestial Kingdom.
SMILE- All temple workers
wear a smile. It is truly a happy place to be.
CANDLE- In the temple you
often feel a warm glow because you know what you are doing is right. Also, light
of the gospel.
RECOMMEND - To attend the
temple, you must receive a recommend from your Bishop. In order to receive this
recommend you must be the proper age and be worthy to attend the temple by
living the commandments.
PEDIGREE CHART - Baptism
and other special work is performed in the Temple for those who have died
without the opportunity of going to the temple for themselves. We do genealogy
to find names of our ancestors who need their work done for them.
JESUS - The temple is His
house.
PICTURE OF MOSES - The
Lord gave Moses the plans for the first temple, which the people of his day
called a tabernacle.
PICTURE OF JOSEPH SMITH -
Joseph Smith was given the plans for the first temple of this dispensation.
PICTURE OF PRESIDENT HINCKLEY
- He is the president of our church today. He receives revelations in the Temple
for members of the church.
GRANITE ROCK - The
pioneers built the Salt Lake Temple out of granite.
Also by going to
www.eprimary.dk
