Sharing Time Idea for August 2006

Theme for August: "As I follow the direction and righteous examples given in the scriptures, the Lord promises me rich blessings."

Bullet Point: "I can be faithful like the stripling warriors."

Song Suggestions: We'll Bring the World His Truth CS p. 172, Book of Mormon Stories vs. 6 CS p. 118

Lesson Plan: Begin by telling the children the story of Helaman and his army of 2000 young warriors. Before you teach the children, you can review the story in Alma 53, 56-58. You may also read the summary on the back of GAK picture number 313. Display
GAK 313 as you tell the story. Then emphasize that as we follow the examples of righteous people in the scriptures, we can receive great blessings from our Heavenly Father.

Divide the children into groups. Give each group a
word strip which describes one characteristic of the 2000 warriors. Ask each group to look up the scriptures listed on the back of the word strips and discuss how the army of Helaman set an example of that characteristic. Ask the children to also liken the scripture to themselves by discussing how they can follow the example of the young warriors in their own lives. Allow each group to briefly present the things they discussed to the rest of the Primary and then post the word strip on a board in the front of the Primary room.

After the presentations, sing one or both of the suggested songs about the army of Helaman. In conclusion, challenge the children to follow the example of the army of Helaman by having faith, being obedient to parents and leaders, being willing to sacrifice, and having courage. Ask them to recognize the blessings that Heavenly Father gives them as they follow the righteous examples from the scriptures. Bear your testimony that Heavenly Father loves us and wants to bless us. As we study the scriptures and follow the righteous examples we find there, we will receive rich blessings.
