Road Rally Clues (power point file)
Road Rally Scorecard (power point file)

For Standards Night this year, we decided to put together a road rally where the youth would be directed to different locations in our area that related to the sections in the FTSOY (For the Strength of Youth) booklet.  Although the locations we used are specific to our area, I've uploaded them to the files so you can get an idea of what we did, and then maybe you can tailor them to locations in your area.

We first started at the church and had approximately 3-4 youth per car (we had YM & YW leaders and parents as drivers).  Each driver was given a packet which included the clues, individually sealed in envelopes, and labeled ( 1) Dress & Appearance, 2) Education, 3) Physical Health, 4) Agency & Accountability, 5) Family & Friends, 6) Repentance, Honesty, Gratitude, Sabbath Day Observance, Tithes/Offerings, 7) Entertainment & Media, Music & Dancing, Language, 8) Service, 9) Dating & Sexual Purity) We combined some of the FTSOY sections together that seemed to "fit" together to reduce the number of destinations they had to go to.  The drivers also received "hint" envelopes just in case their youth got stumped and couldn't figure out the destination from the clue given (the hint was the destination).  These hints were sealed in different envelopes and each hint that was opened would cost the team a point (see scorecard).  The rules for the drivers were that they were only to go where the youth told them to go (they couldn't help the youth figure out the locations).  If the youth told them to go to the wrong place, that's where they went!

Here are the answers to the destinations and the problems they had to solve when they got there:

1) Dress & Appearance- destination: The Gap, answer: 5 (the number of "fitting" rooms)
2) Education- destination: Oakland University (a local university), answer: 3 (the number of statues in front of the Kresge Library.
3) Physical Health- destination: Adams High School track
4) Agency & Accountability- destination: police station
5) Family & Friends: destination: the home of a family in our ward who lives on Calumet Road (By the way, in this envelope we included a ward list)
6) Repentance, Honesty, etc.- destination: the church building
7) Entertainment & Media, etc.- destination: Blockbuster
8) Service- destination: variety of answers (my team went to the supermarket and helped a lady bag her groceries and carry them to her car)
9) Dating & Sexual Purity: destination- Temple, answer: Holiness to the Lord, the house of the Lord

The first destination was different for each car so they were all at different places at different times.  However, the temple (dating & sexual purity) was the last destination for all the teams.  It was here that we all met up and had the bishop give a short talk at the end.  We thought the Temple was a very appropriate place for our final destination since the Temple is one of the youth's goals in their journey through life.  By following the guidelines in  the FTSOY booklet, each of the youth can be worthy of going to the Temple someday.  We tallied up the scores while the Bishop spoke and then presented  the youth with awards.  We only had prizes for the 1st & 2nd place teams, which were a small bag of chocolates wrapped up like race cars (we happened to find these at a drug store) and then all the youth were given a toy model of the new Hummer (donated by a member in our ward works in the car industry).  We had a closing prayer and refreshments were very casual--we had donuts and cider in the parking lot.  This activity was very successful for us and the youth had a great time!
