Do you have your bulletproof dress?
Theme:
Our theme was taken from a Cheri Magill song which can be heard on
this site.
You can also visit her
website...click
here. This song talks about what the world wants us to think and do and suggests that girls need to have a bulletproof dress (like putting on the armor of God) to protect themselves from getting caught up in the world. Her music is up beat and has positive messages that our youth need. Part of the activity is to have the words printed out and talk about them. See lyrics below…Cheri also has three or four other songs on the CD “Chasing Yesterday” that are inspiring for our youth.

Discuss the song
and what having a bulletproof dress is to us
Other ideas:
Fashion show of modest clothing (possible prom dresses if it is that time of
year) Speaker ideas: Using the “armor of God” in analogy to the bulletproof dress share the blessings of living the gospel and eternal peace and joy to the fleeing happiness that the world is trying to sell you. We have also had a speaker who is young husband who states that his darling wife drew his instant respect and interest because she was stylish and modest at the same time. They were excellent examples of a couple for the youth to look to.
Possible scriptures and
quotes:
JST Eph 6:11-13 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take
unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil
day, and having done all to stand.
Elder Vaughn J. Featherstone, A Champion of Youth, Ensign (CR), November 1987, - We invited this marvelous modern army of Israel to put on the armor of God, to stand for truth, and to become a marvelous, forceful influence against immorality, drugs, and indulgence. The response has been wonderful. The youth of the Church are one of the most powerful forces for good on the earth today.
Bishop Glenn L. Pace, “They’re Not Really Happy”, Ensign (CR), November 1987. I know how much you like thrills, adventure, and excitement. Do you want excitement? I’ll give you excitement. Do you realize you are outnumbered in the world 1,000 to 1? The sons of Helaman didn’t face those odds. As the winds of popular opinion intensify and the mocking increases from those who are trying to justify their own unrighteous actions, you will be required to put on the full armor of God. You will need to fight with all of your strength to keep unspotted from the world. We plead with you to stay true—not for us, but for you.
President Spencer W. Kimball, President Kimball Speaks Out on Morality, Ensign (CR), November 1980, p.94. Put on the full armor of God. Attend to your personal and family prayers and family devotions; keep holy the Sabbath; live strictly the Word of Wisdom; attend to all family duties; and above all, keep your life clean and free from all unholy and impure thoughts and actions. Avoid all associations which degrade and lower the high, righteous standards set up for us. Then your life will sail smoothly and peace and joy will surround you.
President Gordon B. Hinckley, The Shepherds of the Flock, Ensign (CR), May 1999. I thank the Lord for each of you. I love you for what you do. I pray for you, every one of you, wherever you may be. I plead with you to shield yourselves from the darts of the adversary. I counsel you to put on the whole armor of God.

LYRICS: Bulletproof Dress
The sidewalk’s cracked and crammed with busy people I am distracted by the world I see The neon lights, the billboards, and the windows I try to fight the message they send me
Now a magazine’s going to tell you what you’ve got to have That your self esteem’s going to come from the clothes that you wear The TV screen’s going to tell you you could be more slender They’re saying live your dream by spending like a millionaire
Chorus With the need to impress we begin to obsess We chase down success yet we only regress In this world I confess, to find true happiness A girl has got to invest in a bulletproof dress
Got to deflect all the petty propaganda Got to protect yourself from jaded jealousy Got to defend yourself from silly scandals Got to ascend to higher ground so you can see Standards Word Search
