Scripture Hero Puppets
by Nona Crowe

Last night I pulled out my fabric scraps and designed a puppet.  A Lamanite with Indian print ribbon, headband with feathers, and long black yarn hair.  It turned out so cute!  My daughter loves it!  My husband said, "Hey! My mom used to make those for us when we were little!" Here is what I did:

  1. Stuff cotton in the foot of a nylon. Use thread to close end.  Pucker a nose with thread in the center.  Using embroidery floss, stitch a mouth.  Sew 3-4 pieces of yarn at a time to the top for hair.  (I used yarn but next I'm going to use cotton and make a beard)

  2. Stuff cotton into 2 small pieces of nylon to make hands.  Tie off ends.

  3. Cut a T-shape from 2 pieces of fabric large enough to fit your hand. Sew along edges (right sides together) leaving open the bottom for your hand and a place for the dolls head and hands. Hem bottom.

  4. Embellish with lace, beads, appliqué, ribbon, etc. Gather and sew clothing around the head and hands.

  5. Glue on googly eyes. (or use buttons)

  6. Extras:

    1. Add a piece of cloth to the head and wrap with ribbon to make a Biblical hat.

    2. Add a cardboard shepherds staff, ten commandments, golden plates etc.

    3. Possibilities are endless!

These are going to be a great asset not only to Primary, but also to our Family Home Evening.
