JUNIOR PRIMARY:

-I started out by saying "today we are going to have a sharing time all about teddy bears". Some of them had weird faces and said, "What?"

Then I spelled out B.E.A.R.S and wrote (Be Excited About Reading the Scriptures)

- Next we sang Scripture Power (and during the chorus they all hold up their scriptures every time they sing "scripture power").

-I had about 6 big teddy bears I found around my house and taped a reason why we should be excited about them to each bear such as:  Hope, Eternal Life, Profit and Learning, Inspire Men, etc-I had the teachers choose a child from their class to come up and chose a bear and then I gave a brief description of what each one means. I had a sunbeam come up and I helped her read 2Nephi 4:15 "...For my soul delighteth in the scriptures..." (I think it is important to get the scriptures in the hands of the little ones.) We talked about what "delighteth" means.

-I wanted them to have a bear to take home but we have many kids in our primary and it just wasn't in our budget. So what I did was find a clip art of a bear and put the scripture bear poem next to it. I punched two holes in the top of the paper and tied it with yarn so that they could put them around their neck and then on their doors at home. They colored their bears and had a GREAT time.

-I then ended with a treat (gummy bears) that I gave to the teachers to hand out at their own discretion.

SENIOR PRIMARY:

-Started out the same way as junior but instead of word strips taped to the bears I taped scripture references.

-Sang Scripture Power (and during the chorus they all hold up their scriptures every time they sing "Scripture Power").

-Each class worked as a group and matched their scripture to the word strips taped on the chalkboard.  Here are the following scriptures and word strips I used:

D&C 20:11: INSPIRE MEN

Romans 15:4: HOPE

2Nephi 4:15-16: DELIGHTETH

2Nephi 31:20 ETERNAL LIFE

1Nephi 19:23 PROFIT & LEARNING

-I read the poem that I handed out to the Jr. Primary and just gave the Sr. Primary a handout.

-And of course, we also handed out gummy bears to the teachers!

It was great and all the kids loved it and most importantly they left being excited about the scriptures!

An additional idea from Faye in Florida: (ga06292006)

In relation to the scriptures, we did a bear drive. I had the families to donate teddy bears that the children no long enjoyed and I also went to various garage sales and found many for .25 cents to ,50 cents.  I added a tag to them that read, "Be Excited About Reading Scriptures" typing BEARS.  I took the bears to Wal-Mart and used their tag gun to attach the tags to the bears. We did about 75 bears.

I allowed the children to pick their own bear out from the table. They were so cute hugging the bears.  The children were to put the bear on their bed to help them remember to read their scriptures. Then I had them tell me stories that they enjoyed. Every once in a while I will ask them what bears mean. They are so excited to talk about scriptures. We keep some in the closet for visiting  children that are feeling scared
