Would this ruin your Sundae?

Tell the kids you are making a Sundae today to represent keeping the Sabbath Day Holy. We had a large mixing bowl and said, "let's make this sundae for our Bishop today." We put in several scoops (like 6) of ice cream and had the Bishop taste it. Then we had the kids come up with ideas for appropriate things to do on the Sabbath. One child mentioned "visiting the sick," so we added a topping like chocolate syrup. Then after each topping we would ask the Bishop to taste the sundae to see if the new topping added to his sundae. We added a few toppings as the kids mentioned good things to do on the Sabbath. We added strawberry syrup, sprinkles, whipped cream, cherries, etc. Then, we said to the children, sometimes we do things that aren't appropriate on the Sabbath. Those things can ruin your Sunday. What if you were having people over for dinner and you forgot to buy the hamburger buns for the hamburgers and you had to go to the store to buys some. Toss some coins into the sundae and ask the kids, "Would that ruin your sundae/Sunday?

To bring it up a notch, we asked the Bishop if he would still like a bite.  He was pretty funny and tried to eat around the coins. Then we said, "what if your soccer team was playing in the all-city finals and you needed to be there. We sprinkled on some grass and dirt and asked, "Would that ruin your sundae/Sunday?" Then we asked the Bishop if he wanted a bite (can you believe it, in Junior Sharing Time he actually dug through the dirt for a bite....eww!) Then, we told the kids, "what if you had company coming on the Sabbath and you forgot to clean the bathroom, so you had to do it. Then we squeezed bathroom cleaner on the sundae and asked," Would that ruin your sundae/Sunday?" Luckily by this point the Bishop no longer tried to eat any of the sundae.

We finished by bearing our testimony of the important of keeping the Sabbath Day Holy. We explaining that when we do things that aren't appropriate on the Sabbath it ruins our Sunday and it isn't a special and spiritual. We finished with a challenge to the kids -- don't ruin your Sunday!
