Family Home Evening on Sabbath Day
1. Opening Song "Saturday" from Children’s Songbook
2. Opening Prayer: Assign
3. Scripture D&C 59:10 *discuss with family
4. Sunday vs. Sundae (object lesson)
*put ice cream in a bowl
*have toppings and condiments displayed
*ask what everyone would put on the sundae
*put a few of the suggestions on the ice cream
*then ask if they would like some "ketchup" (of course they will say no but ask
them "why, you like ketchup on your fries, why not on ice cream?)
*demonstrate that some condiments are good for other things but not ice cream;
just like some good activities are not for Sundays
5. Play Sabbath Day Charades
*to prepare game, cut out word strips found at the end of this site.
*each person takes a turn
*the first player chooses a strip from the game folder
*player then acts out what is written
*the family guesses what is being acted out and decides together if it is an
appropriate Sunday activity or not
