Treasures from our
Prophets and Apostles
by Natalie Houston / ga04242007

Tell the children that you are going to ask them a
trick question. Ask, "How many prophets do we have on the earth today?"
Explain that each member of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the
Twelve Apostles is sustained as a prophet, seer, and revelator. That means
that we have 15 prophets on the earth! Explain, however, that the President
of the Church is the only one who can receive revelation for the entire
Church.
A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to see and hear these 15 men and
other leaders of our church as they spoke to us for General Conference. I
know that by listening to their messages, my faith in Jesus Christ has
grown. I think of their counsel to us as a "Treasure". I felt so good
listening to these wonderful men share their testimony and counsel us on
what Jesus wants for us. I felt like I had just discovered a hidden
treasure.
Today we are going to dig for buried treasure and talk about just a few of
these wonderful "Treasures" that our prophet and apostles left for us.
Dig for buried treasures - (I had a square tub that I filled with wood chips
and buried treasures in. (Click
here for the treasure graphics - they open up in Microsoft
Publisher) ….Talk about each treasure and who gave it to us during
conference. (I drew a picture of a large treasure chest on a poster board
and had the children place the treasure in the treasure chest. I had 14
total treasures) I also had a picture of the Apostles and Fist Presidency
next to the treasure chest. The children were able to identify who gave the
quote or treasure)
These are just a few of the "Treasures" that we have discovered from this
past general conference. In President Hinckley's closing remarks he said……"
We hope that you will use the May edition of the Church magazines as a text
for your family home evenings, to review that which has been spoken in this
conference. What has been said by each of the speakers represents his or her
prayerful attempt to impart knowledge that will inspire and cause all who
have heard it to stand a little taller and be a little better.
I challenge you as well to sit down with your parents and families and read
these messages from our Prophet and Apostles. Their messages to us are
filled with these "Spiritual Treasures" that we can use throughout our
lives.
I Testify that these men have been called of God and that they are leading
our Church today. I know that as we heed the counsel of today's living
prophets, our faith will grow.
