You've had a birthday!

(Lacey Lopez) My sister and I came up with this favorite idea for the birthday kids. I have strips of nonsense words for the song You've Had a Birthday to replace zip-a-dee-a and hi-dee-ho. The birthday child gets to pick one or two nonsense words depending on how many have birthdays. We sing the song with those nonsense words and they get to hold the word strip for the primary to sing. They also get a birthday treat (pencil,  puzzle, play-doh, bookmark, crayons, markers, etc. from the dollar store).

Here are the words we use, make up your own 3 and 4 syllable words too. If you do please share them with us. Use once color for the 3 syllable words and another for the 4 syllable words.

HAP-A-REE  DAP

SAP-O-RAM  PAM

KISS-A-MOO  DOO

PEEP-A-SAL  MAL

BOP-E-TAP  LAP

WHAP-A-ZING  LING

MISS-TOE-KEET

DRAPE-A-MOT

BAR-KEY-TROT

WHURR-A-LOO

VEEP-A-LEEP

GOOT-A-ZUR

Use these words to replace the nonsense words for birthday songs – Zip-a-dee-a, Hi-dee-ho. Print the first 2 pages on one color and the second two on another color. One of each color is chosen by the birthday kids and the song is sung with those words instead.

Also for You've Had a Birthday (...one year older and WISER too...). Let the kids choose a word to replace WISER, give the definition, they can go home and tell their parents the definition and feel

super smart.
