The Golden Plates

I once bought a piece of poster board that was gold metallic on one side.  It seems that it cost $1.50, I think at Fred Meyer.  I cut it up into squares that were the size to fit inside the front of the scriptures.  Then we used  sharp pencil and could scratch symbols into the gold foil, but not leave lead marking.   I had a chart of shapes (sort of like wing dings) that represented the letters and had the kids try to write a short testimony.  Then the kids kept them in their scriptures.  Credit: Luana Wills / ga05252005

A friend of mine once made "scriptures" from a box of raisins.  She cut a piece of paper to wrap around the box, but left the top, side and bottom edges exposed.  (I'm sure she eventually covered them too to look like the "pages")  Michaels Craft Store carries "gold" and "silver" poster paper in their art  department (back with the really nice art supplies).  I think they are around $4 a sheet, but you could make A LOT of plates with a poster board sized piece of paper.  (Idea by Lauri)
