Mother Tell Me The Story
I taught "Mother, tell me the story" last Sunday and thoroughly
enjoyed it. I used a golden book with a heart taped on it for the "story that I
love to hear." I cut a cloud out of white
construction paper and hid a tiny baby doll behind it. I showed the kids how, if
you used two hands, you could make the baby come down from heaven. (Tell me of
heaven and why I came here.) I then had a child hold a red heart in one hand and
put his fingers to his lips
like he was saying, Shhhh. (Tell how you love me and gently speak.) The last
child pretended to be asleep. (And then I'll go to sleep.) We talked about how,
when it is time to go to bed, the best way is to read a story, maybe then talk
about "When you were a
baby", say I love you, and then go to sleep. We talked about what gently
means...that it's not very nice when Mom or Dad yells out "Go to bed!" It's much
nicer to GENTLY speak before bed. I could have added that it is much nicer when
we ALL gently speak at bedtime. No one wants to hear quarreling. After we sang
it once or twice I had the volunteers go find other kids who wanted to take over
their props so we could sing it again. When those new kids came up, we had to
make sure they got themselves in the right order. I asked
them if their mothers fell asleep with them, like I tend to do when I'm putting
my kids to sleep. Everyone was singing well and seemed to like the song. I love
it, because it is so simple. (Idea by Karen Taylor / ga04262007)
