Mother Dear

Mystery Mother: I taught 'Mother Dear' one phrase at a time playing 'Mystery Mom'.  I cut and pasted pictures from our ward list and then printed them in an 8x10 size.  The mother's picture was covered and slowly revealed to the children based on their singing.  For each phrase of the song I had a new mother's picture.  (Idea from Camille)

(Idea by Jessica Skinner)  I taught my children "Mother Dear" and I think it was a pretty easy song to teach. It has 3 verses, I only taught 1 & 3. I made easy visuals.

"Mother Dear I love you so" - red heart with MOTHER written in it

"Your happy smiling face" - I drew a picture of a woman's face smiling

"is such a joy to look at" - Yellow star smiling with the word JOY written

"it makes home a lovely place" - I cut out a square & triangle out of colored cardstock and put them together like a home, used a rectangle for the door/chimney and a square for a window

"Mother Dear I love you so" - red heart with MOTHER written in it (same as 1st verse)

"I'll try the whole day thru" - (I couldn't think of one for this so there isn't one. But it was kind of a joke for the kids, I always made a big deal about not having one and I think it helped them learn the line because they thought it was funny)

"To please our Heavenly Father" - picture I printed from lds.about.com of Heavenly Father & Jesus, then I drew 3 black arrows pointing to Heavenly Father

"I'm so glad he gave me you" - I drew a picture of a mom hugging a little girl & colored it.
