I know that my Redeemer lives
Song Helps
I was worried that the verses to this song would be easily mixed up from verse to verse.
I first taught the 1st verse by making a story book using Jolly Jenn's visuals and we sang it a couple weeks (I started before April and plan to finish after April; especially since we have stake conference this month); it is more familiar to them and makes a great story about the basics of Christ's mission.
Then I introduced the visuals for verse 2 and we have used them two weeks in a row with varying games to remember the keys words.
For verse 3 I talked about a special friend I had when I was growing up. I felt like this one special friend was all I needed to fill my life with a support at school and other activities because she had the same goals and perspective as I. I told them there was a special friend they could have any time, any where, whenever they may feel alone, confused or scared. When asked who I was talking about, they said Jesus Christ. VISUAL ACTIONS; I had two children come up in front to represent friends:
He lives my kind (1st friends hands Book of Mormon to 2nd friend because Christ shared these truths with us), wise (2nd friend holds Book of Mormon to his forehead to remind us that Christ knows these truths) heav'nly friend (2nd friend holds Book of Mormon up toward heaven and then sets it on the table). He lives and loves me to the end (both friends cross arms over there own chest to represent "love") He lives and while he lives I'll sing (both friends make "sign" for song: left forearm perpendicular to upper arm and right hand waves across bent are to represent leading the music) He lives, my Prophet (head band for Nephite prophet) Priest (strip of striped fabric on left shoulders to represent priesthood robe) and King (crown)
NOTE: I stopped right here and had 2 new "friends" come up to do the 2nd half of the song. I must admit that while sitting here typing the words from memory this helped because I could picture the next set of friends and what actions they did so as not to confuse the different lines of the song so easily.
He lives to grant me daily breath (motion of breathing in while arms are raised to the sky) He lives that I shall conquer death (stretch arms up like when arising in the morning to represent gaining a resurrected body) He lives my mansion to prepare ("sign" for heaven by circling open hands above body and pulling right hand to the right and left hand to the left high in the air) He lives to bring me safely there (have 2 friends walk around in a circle, ending facing front again)
The last verse is very repetitious so I think I will write key words on the board on four different lines for each line of the song. I think it will be very easy for the older children to catch onto (the younger kids also, many of them just won't be able to read). I will include the fact that the 3rd line starts differently and the last line is the title of the song. Maybe I will add an action for glory to represent our celebration of Jesus Christ.
