He Sent His Son
Here is an idea from Christy's Clipart.
Flipchart made by Jolly Jen (pdf file)
(Idea by Marianne
Crapo) I did a visual for He sent his
son. I put a HUGE question mark on one side of of the page (for the question
part) and maybe a word or two, and then a simple picture on the other side for
the answer...like this:
? Love Tenderness (how could the father tell the world of love and tenderness)
picture of baby Jesus (he sent his son a newborn babe, with peace and holiness)
? pathway (how could the father show the world, the pathway we should go?)
picture of Jesus walking with two disciples, and underneath that a small picture
of the earth (he sent his son to walk with men, on earth, that we may know)
? sacrifice death (how could the father tell the world of sacrifice, of death?)
picture of Christ on the cross (he sent his son to die for us and rise with
living breath)
? father scriptures (what does the father ask of us, what do the scriptures
say?)
words: Faith, Hope, a picture of Christ, word: others (have faith have hope,
live like his son, help others on their way)
? ask (what does he ask?)
large picture of Christ (live like his son)
I think it was effective because the pictures were simple, the question marks
were huge, so they knew it was a question/answer song.
(Idea from April 2006 Friend) Use this song to help the
children understand how Heavenly Father sent the Savior to bless us. Using
questions and GAK pictures that relate to lines of the song, have the
children review the life of the Savior. For example, review the birth of the
Savior by holding up
GAK 200 (The Birth of Jesus). Ask the children who is in the picture,
what they know about this story, and what the people in the picture make
them think of. Use similar questions with the following pictures:
GAK 209 (Calling of the Fishermen),
GAK 230 (The Crucifixion), and
GAK 239 (The Resurrected Jesus Christ). Give each child a piece of paper
and a pencil. Divide the children into four groups. Assign each group a
section of the song to illustrate. For example, the first group would draw
pictures for the first lines: “How could the Father tell the world of love
and tenderness? He sent his Son, a newborn babe, with peace and holiness.”
Have the pianist play the song quietly in the background as the children
draw. Invite each group to show their pictures and describe them. Have the
group with the final lines (“What does he ask? Live like his Son.”) stand in
front of the room and share their pictures of things we can do to live like
His Son. Invite the children to hold up their pictures for their lines as
they sing the song. Express gratitude for the Savior and for the blessing of
having Him come to earth.
