Did Jesus Really Live Again?
Last week I had success with the song Did Jesus
Really Live Again. For the 1st verse I showed a picture of the tomb
and pulled a big rock out of my bag and said this is heavy imagine how
heavy the tomb stone was to move. I showed them a picture of Mary and
Jesus outside the tomb and asked Did Jesus really live again. They
answered yes and I said great we have the first line to the song already!
While I took the stone around they touched it and held it I repeated the
first verse, while the pianist played the melody. Then we sang it and
continued to the second verse. I asked did Jesus come to those he loved?
They answered yes, and I added people touched his feet. Then I said the
next line...and of the fish and honeycomb he did truly eat. I asked do you
think it was goldfish he ate? Of course they answered no and I pulled out
a whole frozen fish (eyeballs and all!) The kids really loved it I showed
them and kept it in a plastic Ziploc so it didn't smell) Then I asked if
the honeycomb was honeycomb cereal Jesus ate. They laughed and I pulled
out the real honeycomb and held it and let them touch it or taste it.
The juniors didn't want to taste it but seniors did and loved it. During
this the kids got really excited but I quickly calmed them down by telling
them I'd put the items away if we got too loud and weren't listening to
me. Again the whole time I showed these items I repeated the second verse
then we sang this verse. Then I brought out a couple of long nails and
told them what I've read in this group, this verse you are actually
bearing your testimony. I showed them where all the nails were placed in
his hands wrists and feet. Then I asked Did Jesus really live again
after he had died. They all answered Yes! I made sure we all said yes
loudly. Anyways, I know this was long but they learned it in 10- 15
minutes. Not a lot of preparation but I know the kids loved it and I just
wanted to share. (Credit Unknown)

Verse one asks a question, answers it, and tells
what Jesus did. Ask the children to listen and raise one finger when they
hear the question, two fingers when they hear the answer, and three
fingers when they hear what Jesus did. Sing the first verse of the song
for the children. What is the question? What is the answer? Sing that much
together. Show
GAK 233
(Mary and the Resurrected Lord). Say, “The song tells us three things
Jesus did when the third day came. As I sing, count them on your fingers
as you hear them.” (1—“wakened,” 2—“left the tomb,” 3—“called Mary’s
name.”) Review the three things, and sing and count together. Use the same
technique for verse two. The third verse tells how the people knew it was
Jesus. Sing the first half, and ask how the people recognized Him. Sing
that much together. Now the song asks a question and gives a wonderful
promise. Have the children listen for the question, hold up one finger
when they hear it, and fold their arms when they hear the promise. Sing
the rest of the verse for them; then sing it together. Testify of the
Resurrection. [Idea taken from

(Credit Unknown) Teach the lyrics by asking questions that can be answered my
exact words in the song, singing the song, accepting the children's answers, and
inviting the children to sing that part with you. Help them sing the final two
measures of the third verse with understanding and firmness. These include
fermatas over two notes to emphasize the final declaration: "Oh yes! And so
shall I."
Show the picture of the empty tomb and ask - Did Jesus really live again? Let
the children answer - YES. Ask - How do we know? Answers might be -
scriptures tell us, we learn about it in primary etc... Say - Listen as I sing
this song. I'm going to tell you the story of Jesus and what happened when he
was resurrected. Sing the song all the way through to them. Next ask
specific questions like - "Can you listen and hold up you fingers to show how
many days came before Christ wakened and left the tomb?"
Sing that part and help them listen for the answer. Have them sing that part of
the song with you next. (You may have to explain the word wakened - have the
kids pantomime what their bodies might do if they waken from a nap.) Move
on say "Listen and tell me whose name Jesus called after he wakened and left the
tomb."
Sing the first verse again and have them listen to answer your question. (you
could have them raise hand, touch head, cover mouth etc... when they hear the
answer). You could have a child hold up the empty tomb picture, and the
picture of Christ and Mary M. to help them after they have heard and sung the
verse once or twice through.
Sing the second verse - ask questions again and have them listen for the answers
my ideas are: How do we know that Jesus came to those he loved? What two foods
did Jesus eat?
Pictures could be one that shows Christ's feet with the nail prints, and a
picture of fish and honeycomb etc... Sing the third verse - Ask questions again
and have them listen for the answers. My question ideas are: What did
Jesus have in his hands? What did Jesus have in his side?
Have a picture of the crucifixion and the resurrected Christ - Talk a little bit
about what happened to leave these marks on His body. Remember the key is
to ask questions, sing the verse, listen for answer (should be exact), have them
sing with you.
Repeat verse with another question - sing .....
FORMAT: sing, ask question, sing verse while they listen, get answer, sing
together - add pictures to remind.
ACTIONS FOR DID JESUS REALLY LIVE AGAIN
Did Jesus really live again? (shrug shoulders as if asking a question)
Yes when the third day came. (hold up three fingers, and nod head)
He wakened and he left the tomb (hold hands together with fingers pointing up,
move fingers up and out like a fountain would spray water up--sorry hard to
explain this one!!)
He called Mary's name (hold one hand cupped on side of mouth--,one hand looks
more reverent)
Did Jesus come to those he loved? (shrugg shoulders as if asking a question)
Yes people touched his feet. (nod head and point at feet)
And of the fish and honeycomb (hold hands out in front as if holding a plate
with food)
He did truly eat (bring hand to mouth as if eating something)
And there were nail prints in his hands (point to the palm of hand with the
other hand, repeat with other hand)
and a spear wound in his side (point to side)
Did Jesus really live again after he had died? (shrug shoulders as if asking a
question)
Oh yes, and so shall I! (nod head, and point to self--don't forget to smile!)

(Idea by Annette) I went to our local party
store, Zurchers, and found a few things. I found a pretty good sized
number 3 by the birthday banners that I will use for "when the 3rd day
came". I also think I'm going to use a rock to represent the tomb. I
also went to the health food store and bought some honeycomb, because I
think most children think of the cereal. I wanted them to see what
honeycomb actually is. I might even let one or two children come up to
sample a taste. For my spear, I found those mini flags from other
countries at Zurchers, and if you slide off the flag it
makes a perfect spear.
Here is just my thoughts:
Did Jesus really live again? (GAK picture) Yes, when the
third day came, (use the big number three) He wakened and he left the tomb
(a rock), He called Mary's name (there is a great picture in the April
2006 Ensign).
Did Jesus come to those he loved? (GAK picture) Yes, people
touched his feet, (still in the works) And of the fish and honeycomb he
did truly eat (plastic fish, and honeycomb).
And there were nail prints in his hands (hammer a nail in a
2 x 4 pulling the nail out to show the hole that would be in his hands)
and a spear wound in his side (spear) Did
Jesus really live again after he had died (GAK picture) Oh
yes, and so shall I.
It would be fun to scramble the kids up with the pictures
and objects to keep repeating the song.
