Pianist Recognition Idea

Ideas by Sue Ward / ga04172007

One junior singing time, I had the song titles on ribbon tied around fresh tulips. The children collected the flowers from around the room and placed them in a vase. At the end of singing time, we presented the vase full of flowers to our pianist.

For senior singing time that same day, I had the children select laminated cookies out of a paper bag and put them on a paper plate.  Well, we obviously couldn't present those, so I had a plate of baked cookies for the pianist.

Also with the seniors, I had re-written the words to one of the primary songs* (see below) to reflect our love for our pianist. I had her play the song, but told the children that they "probably needed some help with the words" and I tacked up a poster board where the pianist couldn't see the "new" words. She played, they sang the new words... it was perfect.

Our pianist has apparently been serving in her calling for several years, and she told me at the end of primary, all choked up, that no one had ever recognized her like that.

* I used the song "Give said the little stream" (CS #236). My pianist's name is Sister Snow - so here are the words:

God gave us Sister Snow
You play for us, you help us grow
We love to see your smiling face
And we miss you when you're gone.

We're small we know but our voices show
How much we love you so.

Music is your special gift
Hearing you gives us a lift
It helps us to more reverent be
In our Primary!
