Football Fun
by Jill / ga08282006

I invited four varsity football players from the high
school that are in our ward to come. They are priests in our ward. They held
a helmet and this was their presentation:
CLARK: Hi...I'm Clark, this is Cody, Dan & Chad. We are all Priests
in the ward, and play football for Idaho Falls High...we're Tigers.
CODY: Just before the games, we go to the locker room where we put
our uniforms on and prepare for the games. We listen to music to pump us up,
read over plays or whatever gets us ready.
DAN: Sometimes...in the locker room some of the guys listen to
music that is inappropriate, and they talk about things that are, well, bad.
We don't want to listen to any of that, we want to be worthy to prepare the
sacrament on Sundays.
CHAD: A couple of years ago when my brother played, the locker room
got so bad that a group of the guys brought head phones and their own music
to listen to, one of the guys listened to this song: Onward Christian
Soldiers. Play a line or two.
ALL: Commented at once something like: that's a great song, I like
that song, that would get me ready...
CHAD: That song made him feel strong & pumped up for the game, and
let him be righteous at the same time.
Sister B: Did you know that song is in our song book? Sometimes when
you do extra things during school, like ride a bus to a field trip, or go to
a band concert or sports...kids around you may also listen to music or talk
about things that aren't good. Primary songs are like the song this boy
listened to. They can get you ready for the activity you are going to and
keep Heavenly Father's spirit with you. These boys remember primary songs!
ALL: NODDED & SAID YES...THEY"RE GREAT!!!! I was thinking about a new
primary song these boys don't know. Lets sing it for them and see if they
think it would get them ready for a game!
Then we sang Scripture Power to them, wow it was impressive and the football
players loved it. Then we sang other primary songs that would be good to hum
or sing in our heads at school during extra activities. They drew them out
of the helmet.
I am still getting comments about that singing time, it was very successful.
The other songs we sang were: Follow the Prophet .. Jonah and Daniel, I
belong to the Church, I Am A Child Of God.
