Chocolate Chip Cookies
with
Bishop Appreciation Twist !!!
by Melanie Day

Print out the following graphics:
Chocolate
Chip Ingredients
Use the above graphics to represent the ingredients used in making the
cookies. Make a poster board look like a recipe card with the title of the
recipe being- "Recipe for Super Sweet Singers". Make another poster board
that has a mixing bowl on it like this:
Each ingredient (which you don't have to use all of them) represents a song
that has been mastered. When that happens they get to put that
ingredient in the mixing bowl. Let them know that when all of the
ingredients are in the bowl, they are going to make
cookies....really!!
Make sure when you make the poster board with the mixing bowl, only glue
where you see dotted lines (refer to drawing) making it like a pocket.
When they've earned all the ingredients you tell them that they have
finished the task and now they get to make cookies! (They should be
real excited!)
Pass out
these heart cookies and tell them that they are going to make
heart cookies for the bishop. Have them write down their recipe for a
good bishop...what goes into a "good bishop". Put all the cookies on a
small paper plate.
Invite the bishop into Primary and let him know that "the children have
mastered the recipe for Super Sweet Singers...would you like to hear?"
Have the children sing one of their favorite songs that they've been working
the hardest on. Then ask a child to present the bishop with fruit of
their labors...chocolate chip cookies. (Optional: You could also give
some real cookies too...but not necessary).
VARIATION of this idea by Holly Sorenson (ga08032006):
I am planning on reviewing the program songs with a recipe. For each song, I
will make a word strip with the name of the song and an attached ingredient
for chocolate chip cookies. (flour, baking soda, eggs etc.) The Primary
President will be the judge, and determine if the kids know the three levels
for each song:
1. The words
2. Sing with proper volume (no screaming)
3. Proper performance level (sitting straight, not fidgeting or talking)
For each level they pass off they will get a large chocolate chip made of
paper. Each program song has those three levels to pass off. We have 13
songs in our program, but a couple are solos and small groups. So as they
pass off a song, they will get an ingredient to make cookies. I will explain
to them they need to pass off all the songs or the cookies will be missing
an ingredient, and will not taste good. Then I will make cookies for the
kids to eat on the day of the program. That is their reward! You can add
double chocolate chips, triple chocolate chips, m&m's or whatever you need
to make a great treat that matches the number of songs you are planning to
sing.
