I can pray to using proper prayer language
by Shauna Wheelright / ga06232006

Materials Needed
:

Picture of President Hinckley
Wordstrip "you"
Wordstrip "thee, thou, thy, thine"

For Junior Primary:

Show the picture of President Hinckley. Ask, "Who knows his name?" We show our respect when address or talk about our prophet when call him "_______" (President Hinckley)

How do we address our bishop? (Bishop_______)

How do address your teacher? (Brother or Sister ________ )

We show respect when we address others in the appropriate manner such as President, Bishop, Brother/Sister.

There is also language that we use in when we pray to show respect for Heavenly Father. We are going to sing a song that will teach what that reverent prayer language is.

SONG PRESENTATION OF "TELL ME, DEAR LORD" AS OUTLINED IN THE JULY FRIEND, 2006.

Ask the children if they noticed that they never said the word "you" as they sang the song. Sing the song if needed one more time.

Display the wordstrip "you".

What word did we use instead of you? (Thee, thou, thy and thine)

Cover the wordstrip "you" with the wordstrip "thee, thou, thy and thine.)

Teach the following verse:

Thee, thou, thy, and thine

Are special words that say

I love my Heavenly Father

And respect Him when I pray.

For Senior Primary:

Show the picture of President Hinckley. Ask, "Who knows his name?" We show our respect when address or talk about our prophet when call him "_______" (President Hinckley)

How do we address our bishop? (Bishop_______)

How do address your teacher? (Brother or Sister ________ )

"What words did we use?" (thee, thou, thy and thine)

Read the Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13). Ask, "What are we grateful for?" and "What blessings do we need?" Using the children's answers, write on the chalkboard how we would say it in prayer language.

Presidency Message:

What words did we learn about today? (thee, thou, thy, and thine)

When do we use them? (When we pray)

Why do we use them? (To show respect and love for Heavenly Father)

Encourage the children to show love and respect for Heavenly Father by using prayer language.
