Picnic in Nauvoo
Credit Unknown

For the first hour or so everyone rotated through 5 ten-minute learning activities.  They were: brick making, washing clothes on rocks, sawing with a cross-cut, bakery (cutting out cookies then we baked them),   playing marbles. (of course you could do anything that the pioneers did.)  Then a short 15-minute break to eat the cookies and sing pioneer songs.

Then  divide the ward members into teams (children, adults - all together).  Then each team competes against the clock for the relay items.  The relay course was set up outside on the back lawn, but could also be done inside the building.

The relay stations included:

1.  A plastic pool had some wheat poured into it.  Each team had to fill a tub with the wheat then carry it to a designated point.

2.  The next station was tossing rag balls through hoops (we used grapevine wreaths for the hoops)

3.  The next station was transporting something by log rolling.

4.  The next station was making a brick

5.  The next station was cross-cut sawing two peeler logs.

6.  The next station was crushing china (we got dishes and cups from a garage sale - we got a service for 12 for $1.50.)  They put them in a muslin bag and crushed them with a mallet (this was supposed to be for the outside of the Temple).

7.  The last area was a pie eating contest. All the events had to be completed by the team as a whole.  Everyone was able to participate and all had a great time.  The winning team (with the fastest time to complete ALL the events) received a standing ovation. Each team had their photo taken together in front of our Temple.
