Personal Progress Pep Rally
by Angie Peterson / ga11092007

Read the Overview of Personal Progress for Young Women on p. 7 of the Personal Progress book.

For each value, read the definition first.  Then the Young Women will participate in an activity associated with that value.   Afterward, explain the purpose of the activity and how it relates to that value.

1. Faith: "I am a daughter of Heavenly Father who loves me, and I will have faith in His eternal plan, which centers in Jesus Christ, my Savior."

Activity:
YW will navigate through a maze blindfolded with the help and verbal direction of a parent.  While the YW and parents wait outside the room for their turn, have them fill out the paper for the integrity activity.

Purpose:
To teach each YW to trust in the Lord, their parents and their leaders to help guide them through life and down a path they can't always see.

2.  Divine Nature: "I have inherited divine qualities which I will strive to develop."

Activity:  Decorate crowns (from Burger King) with their name to wear the rest of the night.

Purpose:  To remind each YW of their divine nature.

3.  Individual Worth: "I am of infinite worth with my own divine mission which I will strive to fulfill."

Activity:
Have a piece of paper for each girl.  Write their names at the top of the paper.  Have the girls go around to each paper and write something they admire about this individual.  Hand them out at the end of the evening.

Purpose:  To remind each YW of individual qualities that they should admire about themselves.

4.  Knowledge: "I will continually seek opportunities for learning and growth."

Activity:  A trivia game of YW vs. parents: who knows which value experiences fall under which  value?  Let everyone have a turn.

Purpose:
To test the Personal Progress knowledge of the YW and their parents.

5. Choice and Accountability: "I will remain free to choose good over evil and will accept responsibility for my choices."

Activity:
3 cups to mix up on a table; ask one YW to choose one, then mix up the order and ask another Young Woman, etc.  Under one cup will be a prize (candy), under another is something undesirable (a rock) and under the last is nothing.  Let each YW have a turn.

Purpose:  To show that for every choice there is a consequence.   The consequence may be something desirable (the candy) or undesirable (the rock).  Or you might never know the consequence of that decision (the empty cup).  Explain that making the choice is easier if you know the consequences   ahead of time.  Ask the YW what their choice would have been if each cup was a different color.

6.  Good Works: "I will nurture others and build the kingdom through righteous service.'

Activity:  Assemble the YW and leaders in a circle and have everyone give each other back rubs for a few minutes.

Purpose:  To learn to do service for one another, even if it's something small like a back rub.

7.  Integrity: "I will have the moral courage to make my actions consistent with my knowledge of right and wrong."

Activity:  Have each YW and parent write down a time in which they demonstrated integrity (make sure they write their name on the paper).   Have someone the experiences out loud and have everyone guess "who do it" on their paper.  Read the answers out loud.

Purpose:
To help the YW recognize everyone's experiences in which they are able to demonstrate integrity

Food:  Fruit of the color of each value with fruit dip.
